“He’s pretty shy, isn’t he?” Jessica remarked.
:
“Yeah, he is,” Stella nodded as she walked toward the office building.

Jessica followed her, seemingly casually asking, “Stella, are you free tonight? I’d love to take you out for dinner, and maybe I can get to know more about your cousin.”
Jessica paused at just the right moment, her cheeks flushing pink as she looked down, a look of innocence like a girl with a crush.
If Harvey hadn’t warned her earlier, Stella might’ve been fooled by Jessica’s act.
“I have to attend the jewelry exhibition today, so I don’t think I’ll have time,” Stella replied coolly.
“No problem,” Jessica replied confidently. “The exhibition ends at six, which is just about when you’ll be done, right? I can pick you up then.”
Jessica was well–prepared. Stella raised an eyebrow, suspicious. “Just the two of us?”
“Well, since we’re going out, it makes sense to invite a few friends, right?” Jessica answered smoothly.
Thinking back to what happened with Noreen yesterday, Stella finally put it all together.
And that was exactly the case. Noreen was still angry after yesterday. Unable to vent her frustration at Ernest, she decided to blame Stella for everything.
Right at that moment, Jessica, afraid that Stella might take revenge on the Slater family, reached out to her. The two of them had quickly formed an alliance–one for revenge, the other to put her long–planned scheme
into action.
“Stella?” Jessica called out, noticing Stella’s silence. “Is something wrong? Are you having second thoughts?”
“I don’t have time,” Stella replied bluntly, not bothering to play games with her.
“Do you have something else going on after the exhibition?” Jessica pressed, her voice tinged with urgency.
‘If Stella doesn’t show up, how am I supposed to lure Noreen out? And if Noreen doesn’t come, my whole scheme would fall apart, Jessica worried to herself. She’d already lined up everyone she needed.
“Yeah,” Stella replied.
“It’s fine, I’ll wait. Just let me know when you’re free,” Jessica added, trying to keep her cool.
But before she could finish, Stella shot her a skeptical look that immediately made Jessica realize she was being too pushy.
“Well, maybe we can catch up another time when you’re free,” Jessica said, forcing a smile as she tried to hide her disappointment.

“Okay,” Stella nodded, heading straight for the executive elevator.

During the exhibition, both she and Jeremy were going to be busy promoting the event, so she’d just find him. when she got to the office.
After Stella had left, Jessica’s smile dropped. Her gaze became calculating as she muttered under her breath, “If Stella won’t come, I’ll just use her name to lure Noreen out. Once she’s here, it’s all in my hands.”
On the way to the exhibition, Stella caught up with Jeremy and told him everything about Jessica’s invitation. Then, she asked, “You’ve been keeping an eye on her, right? What do you think she’s up to?”
“Doesn’t matter what it is–it’s nothing good,” Jeremy replied flatly. He’d been watching Jessica closely, but she had kept a perfect record at work, so firing her would cause unnecessary trouble.
So for now, he was just biding his time, waiting for her to screw up.
As they arrived at the exhibition entrance, just as they were getting out of the car, an eye–catching car pulled up next to them.
Stella didn’t care about any of that. She replied calmly, “We’re really not that close.”
“Fair point, Sylvia nodded, a touch of self–mockery in her tone. “You were the winner yesterday. I guess from your perspective, there’s no room for the loser.”
She paused, sounding a bit wistful. “I honestly thought we might have ended up respecting each other.”
Stella sneered. Forget the fact that Sylvia had knowingly been the other woman.
Just the memory of how Sylvia’s mother, Louisa, had urged Theodore to throw Stella and her mother out of the Jansen family to secure her own position meant there was absolutely no chance of reconciliation between them.
Stella took a deep breath, adjusting her composure, and teased, “You sure you want to bring up the past right
now?”
Sylvia’s expression soured instantly. No matter how dazzling she seemed now, she’d never shake off the shame she was born with. That mark would stick with her for the rest of her life.
“You can go now. I just came to say hi,” Sylvia said.
Stella smirked, not bothering to look back, and walked off with Jeremy. She had no idea that as she walked away, Sylvia’s eyes went cold.
The sky outside the exhibition hall had turned a breathtaking mix of orange and red, swirling like mist on the ground–a scene straight out of a painting.
“Let’s go, Jeremy said, glancing at the time. “It’s about time–this exhibition’s pretty much over, so we’d better head out.”
“Okay,” Stella nodded, quickly packing up her things and walking out with him.
Other brands and designers were also gathering their stuff, heading toward the exit.
The long corridor stretched ahead, its lights reflecting off the white tiles with a soft shimmer. The walk would take about three or four minutes.
Suddenly, a loud boom rang through the air, like thunder, sending a shockwave through the crowd. Everyone jumped in surprise, their nerves on edge.
