Left Them Loved Myself (Stella Spencer) novel Chapter 96

After Stella went to wash up and get some rest, Harvey headed back to his room. Once he was alone, the smile he had been wearing slowly faded.

He walked over to the desk, opened a drawer, and pulled out a secure phone, one programmed with only one number. It had special features to block signals and prevent eavesdropping. He dialed.

After a couple of rings, a groggy voice picked up, “Boss, why are you calling so carly?”

“What about the people I asked you to find?” Harvey said.

“All set. They left yesterday,” the guy paused, sounding uncertain. “By the time you wake up, they’ll be right in front of you.”

“Got it,” Harvey replied.

Just as he was about to hang up, the guy added, “Boss, when are you coming back? Things are a mess here without you calling the shots.”

Harvey had originally planned to return after settling things with the Spencer family. But thinking about Stella, his expression darkened, and his voice turned cold. “Once I’ve taken care of everything here.”

“Seriously? How long is that gonna take? Want me to come back and help? We could just take them out and end it at the source,” the guy suggested.

Harvey rolled his eyes. “You think things work the same here as we do overseas? If you start racking up bodies, even I won’t be able to keep you out of trouble.”

“Who cares? Worst comes to worst, we’ll just skip town,” the guy said with a smirk.

“Alright, alright, enough with your crap. Keep me posted if something pops up, and don’t make trouble out there,” Harvey ordered.

“Chill,” the guy answered, before they ended the call.

Harvey stared out at the misty night, a dangerous smile forming. He muttered to himself, “Noreen…”

“Stella, time to get up and have breakfast,” Evelyn called out.

Early the next morning, Evelyn, who was thrilled to have Stella back home, got up bright and early to whip up a delicious breakfast for her.

Living at home definitely had its perks. When Stella opened her eyes, there was a fresh set of clothes by her bed. After a quick wash, she headed downstairs to a mouthwatering breakfast spread.

After eating, she even had a personal driver to take her to work. She was getting the full VIP treatment.

Harvey, now playing the role of chauffeur, looked a little worse for wear with dark circles under his eyes, and yawned. “Mom, Stella can drive. Why do I have to be her personal chauffeur?”

He’d stayed up late last night, and then had to get up before dawn to deal with the two people who’d come to see him. He was so tired he could barely keep his eyes open.

Evelyn gave him a playful smack. “What’s the big deal about driving your cousin?”

Harvey sighed. “Fine, I’ll do it. I’ll play chauffeur.” That said, he didn’t waste any time grabbing Stella’s bag for her.

Watching Stella take her time with her milk, Harvey’s frustration boiled over. “Stella, you’re slower than at snail. Can you hurry up?”

“Harvey, it’s really hot,” Stella whined.

“Whatever, pour me a glass too. I’ll see just how bad it really is. Ow! It’s hot!” Harvey hissed.

In the end, lips burned bright red, Harvey looked utterly defeated as he headed out the door with Stella.

In the car, Harvey suddenly said, “If anyone tries to get you to go somewhere today, just ignore them.”

“What?” Stella looked at him, confused.

“Just remember–don’t agree to anything, and don’t go anywhere,” Harvey warned, keeping things vague. He’d deal with the trouble himself. Stella didn’t need to get dragged into this mess.

“Sure,” Stella grinned and nodded. “I know.” She trusted Harvey completely–he’d never let anything happen to her.

“You rascal,” Harvey said with a laugh. “Aren’t you afraid I might just sell you?”

“Harvey, if you’re going to do it, at least get a good price,” Stella teased, grinning. “Fix the Spencer family mess, make some money, and then buy me back.”

It was a pity his family wasn’t up to par. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have minded dating a guy like him at all.

Jessica didn’t overthink it, turning on the charm. “Oh, so you’re Stella’s cousin? Man, you’re way too good- looking.”

She winked at Stella, teasing, “Girl, you’ve been keeping this hottie under wraps all this time? What’s the deal -worried I’d snatch him up and become your cousin–in–law?”

“No way,” Stella gave a casual smile. ‘Harvey’s got way better taste than that,‘ she thought.

If Harvey actually went for someone like Jessica, Evelyn would’ve stopped stressing about his love life ages ago–he would’ve been married off centuries back.

Jessica only said it for fun, and wasn’t bothered by what Stella meant. But she took the opportunity to play her part, turning on the charm.

Harvey, playing along with just the right amount of awkward charm, hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Since we bumped into each other, how about swapping numbers?

“Absolutely, Jessica grinned, totally up for it. Even if they couldn’t be together, there was no harm in occasional casual private encounters.

“Ah, shoot–I think I actually forgot my phone,” Harvey said, double–checking all his pockets, looking utterly disappointed.

Stella was baffled. She had clearly seen his phone just moments before.

“No worries, you can just put it in,” Jessica said, handing her phone over with a big smile,

Harvey took it eagerly, typed in his number, and quickly walked off with a cheerful “Let’s hang out sometime!”

Jessica stood there, utterly thrown. She thought they were going to at least chat or maybe grab a coffee, but instead, he just walked off.
