With that, the whole mess was finally over. But as soon as Noreen stepped out of the interrogation room and got the details, she totally lost it.

A written statement? You want me to write down everything that happened and how it ended? Isn’t that basically a confession? Noreen snapped.

Well you’re not wrong. Stella said, nodding in agreement.

You bitch!” Noreen shot her a glare. She turned to Ernest, panic rising in her voice. “Ernest, how could you agree to this? If she uses that confession against me, I’m completely screwed.

Kourtney chimed in. “Noreen’s right. You’re her brother–how could you just throw her under the bus like

that?”

“Shut up.” Without sparing them a glance, Ernest grabbed a pen and some paper, tossed them onto the table. and said flatly. Write.”

“Ernest!” Noreen exclaimed anxiously.

“I said, write!” Ernest barked, raising his voice.

Noreen gritted her teeth. furious but powerless to go against Ernest. After writing the statement and signing her name, she shot Stella a venomous look. “I’m warning you…”

“Shut up.” Stella wasn’t interested in Noreen’s empty threats. She grabbed the confession and stood up, Jeremy right behind her.

The room was soon empty, except for the Lloyd family. The officer, having finished his part, had left with Stella, leaving them to stew in the aftermath.

With no one else around, Kourtney didn’t hold back. She turned to Ernest and said, “Ernest, what the hell were you thinking? Stella’s holding Noreen’s confession now. If she releases it, Noreen’s done.”

Given all the scandals in the jewelry world, Noreen’s reputation was beyond repair, and pretending otherwise was pointless.

I have a company meeting. I’m leaving,” Ernest said, ignoring her concerns. He grabbed his things and headed for the door.

“Ernest!” Noreen cried, her voice full of panic.

Ernest really did stop and turn to look at her. He added, “The compensation will come from your account. Starting today, I’m freezing your card. You’ll get ten thousand a month for living expenses. That’s it.”

Noreen felt the world crash down around her. But Ernest didn’t give a damn. He gave her one last cold glance and left. That one glance was enough to shut Noreen up.

After he disappeared, she turned to Kourtney, her lips trembling. “Mom, do you think Ernest might actually have feelings for Stella?”

Kourtney instinctively wanted to deny it, but then she remembered how Ernest had sided with Stella earlier. Doubt crept in. If that was the case, Kourtney thought it was better to shut it down now before things went too

far.

It wasn’t that Stella and Ernest didn’t match–Sebastian would back Stella up, and with his 29% of the company, no one could say anything.

But after all these years of treating Stella like a servant, to suddenly have her become the lady of the house. was more than Kourtney could handle.

“Mom, say something!” Noreen nearly cried out, desperation all over her face. With her reputation trashed and her bank account wiped out, Noreen had no idea what to do anymore.

Kourtney looked at her and sighed. “Say what? Tell me why you barged into her house and caused all this

trouble?”

Noreen snapped, still refusing to take any responsibility. “How is this my fault? If it weren’t for those designs Stella gave me, I wouldn’t have ended up like this. And if I didn’t put her in her place, how was I supposed to get over it?”

“So, are you feeling better now?” Kourtney asked, completely unimpressed.

Noreen didn’t answer, just glaring at her mother in frustration.

“Enough. Go home for now. We’ll deal with this later. As for your brother, he probably just finds Stella a little interesting.

She thought he came to help Noreen out of the mess, but in the end, he just dealt with the troublemaker herself.

Harvey could tolerate dealing with Sylvia and her crowd, but he would never stand by while someone messed

with Stella.

“It’s fine, really,” Stella replied, shaking her head and forcing a small smile. The Spencer family had enough drama as it was–she didn’t want to pile her own troubles onto them.

“Fine? Seriously?” Harvey snorted, grabbed her by the cheeks and gave them a gentle but exasperated twist. “Stella, do you take me for a fool? If everything was fine, would you be here at this hour?

“And then you send me that lame text about missing your bed? Come on, at least make your lie believable. The bed you used to sleep in? That thing broke years ago and got tossed out by Mom. So tell me, which bed are you talking about?”

“Let go of me,” Stella mumbled, checks still squished, her words coming out all weird.

Harvey gave her cheeks two more playful tweaks before releasing her. “Don’t even try to keep stuff from me. What happened?”

Stella sighed and told him everything, trying to sound as calm as possible. “Harvey, don’t stress. I’ve already handled it.”

“Yeah right, like I care,” Harvey shot her a look and turned, heading off.

Stella followed him, grabbed his arm and gave him her cutest grin. “Hey, we’re family. If you won’t take care of me, who will?”

“Oh really? Now you’re remembering we’re family?” Harvey teased, rolling his eyes.

“You’re a bigshot CEO, you can’t be bothered with little stuff like this. I’ll handle my own business,” Stella said.

“This bigshot CEO’s got sore shoulders and his legs are numb from standing here for so long. Don’t you think someone should give me a little special treatment?” Harvey grumbled, totally hamming it up.

“Harvey, you’re so dramatic,” Stella laughed, pretending to be exasperated.

As they joked and bickered, they walked into the house, their shadows stretching long across the floor under the warm light.
