Noreen couldn’t help but feel smug. With Ernest having ignored Stella for days, she figured Stella must surely be going out of her mind. She probably spent every night obsessing over Ernest.

Stella was just putting on an act now. She was just too proud to admit it. And Noreen had just given her the perfect excuse, even if it wasn’t exactly what Stella wanted.

But knowing Stella, Noreen was sure she’d swallow her pride, draw more designs for her, and try to win Ernest

back.

“Seriously, you must be crazy. Maybe you should get your brain checked when you have time. Or go see an ENT doctor, maybe they can fix your selective hearing,” Stella said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Before Noreen could let her imagination run wild, Stella’s biting remark yanked her back to reality. “Wait. Are you talking about me?” Noreen gaped in disbelief.

“Who else would I be talking to?” Stella shot back, unfazed. “Honestly, I’ve been saying it–your ears must be broken. Better get it checked before you’re totally out of commission.”

‘How many times do I have to tell her? I’m not drawing any more designs for her, Stella grumbled inwardly.

“Stella, I gave you a chance to back down. Don’t be so shameless,” Noreen said, gritting her teeth.

Stella wasn’t even interested in wasting more words. “You’ve got two choices. Either pay up and apologize so we can settle this privately, or I call the police and let the whole world know.”

“Go ahead,” Noreen sneered. She didn’t buy for a second that Stella had the guts to take it that far.

Thirty minutes later, inside the interrogation room, an older cop stared at Noreen’s defeated face, furrowing his brows. “Do you have a problem with our officers, Ms. Lloyd?” he asked.

Noreen was dying to snap back or hire a lawyer to complain about every last one of them. When the police showed up at the Lloyd family estate to haul her in, she almost lost it.

Her reputation was already trashed–now it was beyond saving.

Thinking about the nosy neighbors in their pajamas, stumbling out to gossip, Noreen could already imagine how she’d be laughed at in the elite circles.

“Seriously, can’t you guys show a little compassion? Why did you have to come to my house and drag me out like this?” Noreen finally blurted out, her irritation spilling over.

The cop stared at her, then replied, “Maybe you should’ve answered your phone?”

The more messed–up the situation, the more dramatic the cops got with how they dragged people in. Trespassing, wrecking property, stirring up trouble… This time, Noreen had really crossed all the lines.

If it weren’t for the Lloyd family’s charitable contributions, the cops wouldn’t have wasted any time calling- they would’ve just shown up and dragged her away.

“Let’s forget about the facts for a second–don’t tell me you cops never make mistakes?” Noreen shot back, her voice full of attitude.

The middle–aged cop was stunned. “Alright, cut the crap. Why did you break into Ms. Spencer’s house?” the cop asked, his tone firm.

Inside the mediation room, Kourtney gave Stella a disapproving look. “She’s probably messing around ‘cause she thought it was funny. Seriously, it’s not like it’s a huge deal. Can’t you just let this slide for family?”

“Are you out of your mind?” Kourtney snapped, her voice shaking with anger. “You really want to see Noreen go to jail?

Ernest was always cool and detached, but anyone who knew him could tell that his calm demeanor was masking his anger. Seeing Ernest so worked up because of Norcen made Kourtney keep quiet.

But Jeremy, sitting right beside Stella, wasn’t letting it go. “Mr. Lloyd, you’re not going to throw your weight around, are you?”

Ernest flashed a faint, unreadable smile. “Naturally,” he said, then turned to Stella. “So, what’s your move?”

That was basically Ernest making it clear–he wasn’t about to let Noreen do time.

“She’ll pay for the damages, apologize, and sign a statement detailing what she did and what happened as a result, Stella said, her voice steady and firm.

Stella hadn’t wanted to make this a huge issue. If Sebastian got wind of it, then things would really get messy.

This was just a lesson for Noreen. If Noreen didn’t learn her lesson, Stella would make sure that statement got out, and Noreen’s reputation would be ruined.

Ernest picked up on all of this instantly.

Stella had expected him to try to settle everything with money, but instead, he didn’t hesitate. “No problem. I’ll have her sign the statement, and the compensation will be transferred to your account soon.”

Stella nodded, not doubting for a second that he would follow through. She picked up the pen and signed the agreement without hesitation.
