Sienna looked like she was about to burst into tears. “Whitney, why do you have to keep pressing me about things I don’t want to talk about? Can’t you just stop? All three of them were involved, okay? Ugh…”
Emma jumped to her defense. “You’re out of line, Whitney. This is just bullying.”
“So, you’re admitting the samples belong to you three?” Whitney said, a cool smile on her lips.
She turned to the family doctor, who was standing nearby. “Doctor, you’ve tested all the samples from these three men, right? Can you tell us, right here and now—do any of their DNA match the sample you took from Sienna?”
The room went silent. Sienna froze, her face draining of color.
Back when the doctor took her sample, there was never any talk of actually sending it for testing. Besides, the Nelson family wasn’t exactly set up with a high-tech forensics lab in their fancy old mansion. Sienna had been sure that the wounds alone would be enough evidence for Mrs. Nelson. Testing… was this another trap Whitney set for her?
Panic started rising in her chest.
Sienna pressed her lips together, clearly rattled. “There’s no way you could have test results back this fast. Whitney, did you bribe the doctor? Are you all trying to frame me? Grandma, you have to believe me!”
Emma gripped Sienna’s arm. “Whitney, this is ridiculous! There’s no way you could’ve tested their DNA so quickly, you’re just making things up!”
“Am I?” Whitney arched an eyebrow. “The family doctor can provide an official report.”
Mrs. Nelson piped up, “Yes, our doctor is fully qualified to run these tests.”
The doctor adjusted her glasses and unfolded a printed sheet. “Ms. Sienna, based on the residual samples I collected from you,” she said, holding out the report, “I can confirm that the DNA does not match any of these three men.”
Shane’s jaw tightened, his eyes icy. He understood exactly what Whitney was implying. “Sienna, who did you really sleep with? Why try to pin it on me?”
Whitney shot Sienna a cold look. “You three didn’t do anything, but you’re still taking the blame. Sienna, how much did she pay you? Or did she threaten your families? Who’s behind this?”
The drunk men exchanged panicked glances.
“Just tell the truth,” Whitney said smoothly, “No matter who’s threatening your families, the Nelsons can handle it and get them back safely.”
That did it. Ignoring Sienna’s warning glare, the men finally started to talk, stumbling over their words. “Last night, this woman came to us with another guy… He had our families and said we had to do what she wanted, say what she told us to say…”
Whitney watched Sienna squirm, then flipped a photo onto the table—a picture of a young man. “Sienna, you have a secret lover. The second son of the Lutz family from uptown. Last night, you spent the night with him to create the ‘evidence,’ and he paid off these drunks to help you pull off this whole switcheroo.”
