Love beyond the mask (Whitney) novel Chapter 1305

“Parker! I’m fine. As long as Valerie’s alive, I can finally breathe again, oh my god…”

“Come on, Tiana, have a little faith in your man, will you? If I’m here, you think I’d let anything happen to Valerie?” Parker shot back, half-joking, half-exasperated.

“Stop jinxing it,” Tiana sobbed, her emotions all over the place after the rollercoaster of the night.

Whitney stepped closer, trying to comfort the pregnant woman. “Valerie might be hurt and definitely shaken up. We should get to the hospital, quick.”

“Nolan took Valerie—he carried her out! Was it Nolan who saved her in the end?” Tiana pointed ahead, still shaken. “Ashton is just the worst. At least with Elaine gone, maybe it’s some sort of justice for Ashton.”

Whitney had seen what actually happened. It was Ashton who pushed Valerie to safety at the last moment. Parker had shoved Elaine away himself. But Whitney kept quiet.

The group piled into the car in the darkness.

Parker took the wheel, glancing in the rearview mirror at Tiana, who couldn’t seem to sit still for a second. He never took his eyes off her for long—never knew what she’d do next.

“Feel your belly. Is the baby moving okay?” Parker asked, impatience coloring his voice.

Tiana rolled her eyes but did as she was told. “Yup, the little peanut’s kicking. By the way, you were there—what did Elaine do to Valerie? Was she badly hurt?”

“Could be some internal injuries,” Parker frowned, “but honestly, I’m more worried about the trauma.”

“That trauma is all Ashton’s fault! Who could survive something like that? Almost dying, and the man you love still chooses to save Elaine in the end. Why didn’t Ashton just go with her? At least now, Nolan and Valerie can finally be together. Nolan’s a good man, you know?”
