Violet arrived at the café half an hour earlier than planned. She’d already ordered Lennon’s favorite tea, making sure everything was perfect—her manners impeccable, every detail attended to.
When the private room door opened, Violet gripped the armrest and stood up. “Mr. Martinez, please have a seat.”
Lennon waved her back down. “No need to stand, Violet. Your leg isn’t well—don’t trouble yourself.”
But Violet respectfully offered the freshly brewed tea with both hands. “It’s only right to rise when greeting an elder.”
Lennon gave her a measured look.
She was attractive, well-mannered, and seemed gentle by nature. No wonder Eugene had fallen so hard, so quickly.
He didn’t bother with small talk. “My son, Eugene, is quite taken with you, Ms. Scott. May I ask—do you feel the same?”
A blush crept up Violet’s cheeks as she looked down. “Eugene is wonderful. We get along very well.”
Lennon leaned forward. “You shouldn’t worry about your leg. I’m a doctor. Healthy or not, everyone deserves happiness.”
Violet shook her head softly. “Mr. Martinez, after what I’ve been through, it’s hard not to care. The pain is carved into my heart—it’s something I can’t shake. I just…”
Her voice faltered. “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pursue happiness.”
There’s an old saying: only the right remedy can heal a wounded heart. Lennon picked up on her meaning. “So, you feel that unless you resolve what’s weighing on you, you can’t move forward?”
Violet nodded.
Lennon glanced at his tea, then said, “To be honest, I’m Amelia’s daughter’s physician.”
Violet’s eyes widened. “You know my sister?”
She pressed on. “She has a daughter? Is she sick—what happened?”

The readers' comments on the novel: Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel)
How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
