The assistant ended the call and placed the phone beside the man, who was bent over a stack of paperwork.
“Mr. Campbell, Ms. Scott asked me to tell you she ran into someone from the old Scott family. She said she needs to speak with you.”
Daniel paused for a moment in the middle of signing a document, then simply replied, “Alright.”
The assistant waited, expecting further instructions, but when none came, he turned to leave. Just as he reached the door, Daniel called him back.
“Move Friday’s flight up to tomorrow. You’ll handle the remaining work.”
“Me?” The assistant blinked in surprise.
Daniel’s cool gaze flicked up from the papers. “What, after all these years working with me, you still can’t wrap up a project? Maybe I should send you out to the countryside to grow potatoes.”
The assistant straightened his back immediately. “Rest assured, Mr. Campbell. I’ll take care of everything to your satisfaction.”
—
A flight from Sunland to Silkwood took six hours.
There was no time difference between the two cities. As Daniel boarded his plane, Amelia had just finished lunch. She planned to rest for a bit before taking Ruby to the hospital for her check-up that afternoon.
Ashley glanced over. “Ruby seems fine. Why are you taking her to the hospital so often these days?”
Amelia smiled, her eyes curving. “I’ll explain everything to you later.”
She was almost cheerful about the hospital visits—so much so that if someone didn’t know better, they might think something wonderful was happening there. Ashley didn’t press for more. If Amelia said she’d tell her later, that was enough for now.
After Ruby’s check-up, the little girl went off with a nurse to play in the hospital’s playroom, while Amelia went to see Dr. Martinez, as usual.
The news was good. After a month of medication adjustments, all of Ruby’s test results were within the healthy range. If things stayed on track, the surgery would be scheduled in about two weeks, just as planned.
Amelia was on her way out of Dr. Martinez’s office when he added, “It’s not just Ruby who needs to stay healthy—you do too. Don’t let outside worries affect your mood. When Ruby has her surgery, she’ll need her mother’s support more than ever. We’ll get through this together.”
“Thank you, Dr. Martinez.”

The readers' comments on the novel: Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel)
How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
