Love Times Four My Stepbrothers Are My Mates (Alayah) novel Chapter 118

**When Broken Stars Drift Across Empty Midnight Skies by Troy Mason Venn – Chapter 118: Walk Away**

**Taipo’s p.o.v.**

From the very moment I set foot in this place, an unsettling truth gnawed at my insides. It was evident that some Pack members harbored a cruel streak, inflicting pain on their own kind, whether through venomous words or worse. I sensed it, the heavy air of injustice, but I lacked the proof to voice my suspicions. So, I remained silent, a witness to the shadows lurking within our community.

Then came the call from Hondo—a beacon of hope amidst the chaos. I felt a surge of determination wash over me; finally, those who had wronged others would face their reckoning, and I was resolute in my commitment to assist him in every possible way. Yet, I never anticipated that in the midst of this turmoil, I would rekindle a bond with my childhood friend. It was a bittersweet comfort to have him by my side as I unearthed the painful truth about my parents.

Hondo and his Lycan had a remarkable ability to soothe both Shadow and me, who were both teetering on the edge of rage, ready to unleash our fury on those responsible for the suffering we were witnessing. Hondo, ever the strategist, had decided to save Dusya’s family for last. I suspected he did this intentionally, ensuring I had ample reasons to fuel my anger—and it was working like a charm.

I didn’t need anyone to explain the scene unfolding before me; the agony etched on the faces of those involved spoke volumes. There was only one reason a male or female could endure such torment, and in this instance, the source of that anguish was glaringly obvious: the two Wolves loitering on the back porch. The female crumpled on the floor was one of the Pack’s teachers, a Sigma, and I feared that her very rank had led her Mate to unleash this torment upon her.

Gilles, the male in question, was a despicable creature who believed he was entitled to the finest things in life. But he had the good sense to keep his mouth shut in front of our Alpha. As he finished with the female sprawled across his lap, a smug grin spread across his face as he asked, “Did you enjoy it as much as we did?” His callousness made my stomach churn as he carried her into the cottage, and it was at that moment I recognized her—Haydu, the daughter of Orosz Hyll.

“The female is Haydu, the Daughter of Orosz Hyll,” I murmured to Hondo, urgency lacing my voice. Without a moment’s hesitation, he surged forward, scooping up the unconscious female who had succumbed to the pain inflicted by her Mate.

I trailed closely behind him, my heart heavy as we approached the cottage that had once belonged to my grandparents, both of whom had passed away a few years prior. Ever since, I had been navigating this world alone. Hondo ascended the stairs to the room he had intended to use, gently laying Haydu down on the bed. “Do you trust the Pack doctor?” he inquired, concern etched across his features as he regarded the unconscious form.

“No, but there’s someone in the infirmary whom I do trust,” I replied, determination rising within me. I quickly linked my Aunt, my heart racing with anticipation. “She’ll be here shortly with everything she needs. I didn’t mention you, though; I want to see the look on her face when she realizes we’re connected.”

As we descended the stairs, a sense of helplessness enveloped us; there was little more we could do at that moment. A smile tugged at my lips when I saw Hondo gravitate toward the coffee machine. We had barely settled into our chairs with steaming mugs in hand when my Aunt burst into the room, her presence commanding immediate attention. “Where is she?” she demanded, her eyes scanning the room until they locked onto Hondo’s, her eyebrows arching in silent inquiry as she turned to me.

“She’s in one of the guest rooms, Aunt Nako,” I replied, fully aware that she was seeking more than just a location. “This is Hondo from Blood Stone Pack; he’s here to investigate a few families for Alpha Alayah,” I added, deliberately sidestepping her probing gaze.

“Taipo,” she growled softly, a warning lacing her tone, and I couldn’t help but notice Hondo chuckle at the tension in the air. “Yes, Aunt Nako, there is a connection between us, and he knows I’m neither a Wolf nor a Lycan. I may have neglected to mention yesterday that we are Lynxes,” I finally confessed, watching Hondo’s smile broaden at the revelation of my true nature.
