As the tension in the room thickened, I felt an urge to voice my concerns, but Alpha Gordon was having none of it. With a determined stride, he followed the three Omegas to the door, firmly closing and locking it behind them. I turned to him, curiosity piqued, and asked, “Alpha Gordon, is the upgrade to your office something everyone knows about?” He replied, his expression serious, “Only my leadership team and the security firm are aware of it.”
I settled into the chair beside him, the weight of the moment pressing down on us both. “Alpha Gordon, I mean no offense, but have you always scrutinized your financial records as meticulously as you have this time?” I ventured, hoping to gauge his reaction.
His gaze was intense, and the silence was palpable as he processed my words. “Are you suggesting that someone has tampered with one of the budgets?” he inquired, his voice laced with disbelief. I nodded gravely, “Actually, two budgets have been manipulated.” As we began our meal, I took a deep breath, preparing to elaborate on my findings.
“I enlisted Mom’s help to review the books,” I explained, “because I needed a second set of eyes to confirm that I wasn’t missing anything crucial.” I continued, “I’ve been trying to understand the motive behind these actions, but looking over your budgets, I can’t fathom why anyone would want to steal from the Pack. Each member receives a fair paycheck, and in my opinion, it’s more than reasonable. So, being underpaid doesn’t seem to fit as a reason for this betrayal.”
With a flick of my fork, I added another piece of meat to my plate, the gravity of the situation weighing heavily on my mind. “I’ve also pinpointed when the discrepancies began and the total amount that has gone missing. Now, the big question remains: who is behind this?”
As dinner progressed, I observed a whirlwind of emotions wash over Alpha Gordon’s face—anger, confusion, and deep disappointment. Dad and Beta Jacob were working hard to soothe him, but his frustration was palpable. “I’m going to kill her. I swear, I’ll kill that fucking bitch,” he repeated, each iteration dripping with rage. I couldn’t fault him for his reaction; if I were in his shoes, I would likely feel the same fury. The thought of betrayal from someone trusted would ignite a fire in anyone.
In the back of my mind, Topaz had been restless ever since the meal began. She longed to return home, to see the Boys and assert her dominance. She had remained quiet all day, processing the whirlwind of information we had encountered since our arrival. I was grateful for her presence; she was my anchor amidst the storm of emotions, the calm to my rising anger.
If it weren’t for Topaz, I might have distanced myself from everyone involved for the rest of my life. But she understood my priorities, even if she wasn’t entirely thrilled about them. She knew my commitment to my job was paramount.
Finally, as Alpha Gordon’s fury began to subside, I spoke up, “She can no longer access the funds without your knowledge.” His brows furrowed in curiosity as I continued, “I’ll install a program on your laptop that will alert you to every transaction made from every budget. You’ll see where each purchase originated and the amounts involved. This way, you can monitor your accounts more efficiently until I’m able to integrate the bookkeeping systems of both Packs, which I plan to do once I return to Crimson Moon Pack.”
