The moment Bastian returned home with the news about Alayah, a whirlwind of questions and concerns began to swirl in my mind. We immediately set out on a quest for knowledge about the Crimson Moon Pack, hoping that Brock, my son, could shed some light on the mysteries surrounding them. In the comfort of my private office, I gathered my family for a crucial meeting, leaving the mundane tasks to my Beta and Gamma. Tonight, at dinner, I would share the revelations that Bastian had unearthed. As I settled into my chair, an Omega entered the room, carrying a tray filled with steaming mugs of coffee. I smiled at her and assured her that I would link her if we needed anything more.
“Brock, what have you uncovered about Maxwell and his family?” I inquired, my voice steady yet tinged with anticipation. Brock, ever diligent, grabbed his tablet and began to relay the information he had painstakingly gathered. He spoke of Maxwell’s tragic accident as a young teen and the bond he had formed with Mara, who turned out to be his Mate. I could see the sadness wash over Brock’s face as he recounted their brief six-month relationship before Maxwell’s untimely death. He had heroically defended his Luna during a Rogue attack, sacrificing everything in the process.
“The records on what happened afterward are scarce,” Brock continued, his brow furrowing in concentration. “But I did manage to find a record of Alayah’s birth. Her file was updated only when she turned seventeen, and it was misfiled, which delayed my search. It seems her grandmother raised her, as her mother struggled to cope with Maxwell’s death. From what I gathered, that was around the time she last saw her mother.”
Mable exchanged a knowing glance with me. We both understood the profound pain of losing a Mate, and I felt a sense of relief that Alayah’s mother had somehow managed to endure. “Is her mother still alive?” Mable asked, her voice laced with concern. Bastian responded, “Mara is now mated to the Gamma of Autumn Pack. I suspect that was one reason she ended up there; the other had to do with some bookkeeping issues.”
Brock’s expression shifted to one of curiosity. “Aside from their physical resemblance, what else did our ancestors share?” he queried, prompting a thoughtful silence to envelop the room. Each of us pondered whether there was something deeper that connected the original bloodline. Finally, Mable broke the silence, “They all possessed unique minds, almost photographic in nature.” Brock nodded enthusiastically, adding, “And right now, Alayah is pursuing her master’s in accounting. She’s already completed her other studies, including psychology.” He read from his tablet, his pride evident.
We took our lunch on the floor, continuing to dissect the information Brock had uncovered about Alayah. Bryson shared insights about the leadership dynamics in both Packs, noting that both seemed to have their affairs in order based on his findings. There were no reports from the Elders indicating any disputes within their Packs, a rarity among Lycans, but we were all too aware of the underlying tensions that often simmered beneath the surface. As we wrapped up our meal and prepared to head to dinner, a resolute thought crystallized in my mind: Alayah needed to know the truth about her lineage.
