"Silly girl, what are you talking about?" Martha smacked Lisa.

"Mom, this way Uncle Logan won't leave us, right? That's a good thing, isn't it?" Lisa continued to probe.

"What's good about that? If that were true, do you know how many people would be talking behind our backs and the Cohens'?" Martha's thoughts echoed her concerns.

"But Uncle Logan has already said he's not a Cohen anymore, so who cares what others say?" Lisa continued to persuade.

Martha shook her head. "That's easy to say, but people will still gossip."

"You always say we should do our own thing and let others talk. Who cares what they say? It's not like we'll lose any sleep over it." Lisa continued with her twisted logic.

Martha finally realized something was off and pinched her ear. "You wouldn't be harboring any improper feelings about your uncle, would you? I'm warning you, don't get any wild ideas. We all like Joelle, and they're already together. Don't go messing things up and make your uncle feel awkward, okay? Or else he might never want to come back here."

"Mom, I..." She tried to say more, but Martha pushed her away.

"Go to bed and stop filling your head with nonsense. And find a decent boyfriend to bring home. Our upstairs neighbor, Mia, is half a year younger than you, and she's getting married this Sunday." Martha turned Lisa into her target again.

"Mom, I want to find someone like Uncle Logan, but... I can't," she muttered a defiant remark as Martha walked away.

Martha turned around and glared at her. "Are you out of your mind? Stop talking nonsense and get out of my sight."

Faced with her wide-eyed glare, Lisa cowered. "Please don't scold me anymore. If you keep it up, I might as well jump off a building."

"The world could end, and you still wouldn't jump." Martha shot back, fully aware of her bluff.

And it was true, Lisa wouldn't do anything that reckless. Besides, she had already tested the waters. There was no way she and Logan could ever be together.
