Chapter 104: Everything Was a Lie
Timothy felt as if his entire world was suddenly unsteady, teetering on the edge, the moment Viola’s words struck him. She had unveiled every hidden truth about Phoebe, each revelation cutting deeper than the last, leaving Timothy reeling. Though her apology arrived far too late, it was something—at least she had finally spoken.
“This conversation should have happened months ago,” Timothy said, frustration thick in his voice. But when Viola flinched, her eyes wide with fear, he quickly softened his tone. She already looked terrified enough. “We could have stopped so much damage from happening.”
The truth was a bitter pill to swallow. Phoebe had only agreed to poison Perry because the king had treated her like nothing—based entirely on falsehoods about her supposedly pining after a mate who had rejected her. Nothing could have been further from the truth.
“Are you absolutely sure Phoebe hated Kevin?” Timothy’s gaze narrowed, his need for certainty sharp as a blade.
“Completely sure,” Viola answered, her voice trembling. “I know exactly what Kevin was like…”
Her body shook as she spoke, a shudder of remembered pain running through her. “Thank God I escaped his hold.” Her head lowered in shame.
By confessing the truth, Viola was also exposing her own humiliating past with Kevin. No wonder she had kept silent for so long. During her time with him, she had suffered the same cruel treatment Phoebe endured. She understood the torment Phoebe had faced under Kevin’s control, the suffocating silence that came with it.
Back then, Kevin’s true nature was hidden behind closed doors. Cameron still held the beta position, making it dangerous to challenge him. But as the future alpha, Kevin had enough influence to silence Viola and keep his abuse secret.
“I’m so grateful I got away,” Viola whispered, squeezing her mate’s hand tightly. He had stayed by her side throughout their entire conversation, lending her strength. “Finding my mate gave me the courage to leave the pack.” She glanced at him, a shy affection softening her expression.
Timothy’s mind spun, struggling to absorb the flood of information. It was too much, too quickly. Anger flared inside his chest—not just at Viola’s delayed confession, but at his own foolishness.
Why had he traveled all the way to the Obsidian Claw pack chasing lies, when the truth had been right in front of him all along? He felt like a complete fool.
“But the rumors…” Timothy began, hesitant.
Viola shook her head firmly. “Kevin is cunning beyond measure. He orchestrated everything. Trust me—Phoebe endured absolute hell with him. There’s no way she enjoyed a single moment, especially knowing Kevin used her to get revenge on me.” A fresh wave of apologies spilled from her lips.
Shame washed over her face, regret etched into every line.
“Please understand—Phoebe’s been through enough. We weren’t close, but I know she’s good at heart.”
Their distance hadn’t been by choice. Dealing with Kevin left no space for forming bonds with anyone else.
“God… what a disaster,” Timothy muttered, dragging his hands roughly over his face, irritation boiling over at how everything had spiraled out of control.
This catastrophe could have been avoided if only…
He pushed the useless regret aside. There was no point dwelling on past mistakes now. His priority was to find Perry and deliver the truth. The king would not take this news lightly, especially knowing his royal gamma had been feeding him false information.
“I’m sorry, Royal Gamma Timothy,” Viola repeated for what felt like the hundredth time.
