Marked By The Mad King Alpha (Phoebe and Perry) novel Chapter 12

Kevin’s POV
The silence in the office was shattered by a voice that wasn’t meant for him. “Alpha Sterling…” Kevin spun around sharply, his jaw clenched tightly. Dani, the omega, stumbled awkwardly away from his desk, her eyes cast downward and her breathing uneven, betraying her distress. Without uttering a single word, she slipped past the older man standing firmly in the doorway.

At least they hadn’t been caught in a worse state. Kevin thought grimly. If they had, Dani might never have recovered from the humiliation of facing the former alpha’s cold, disapproving gaze.

Sterling’s face was unreadable as he stepped fully into the room, his presence heavy and imposing. He didn’t say a word about what he had just witnessed, but the clear disgust in his eyes spoke volumes.

“Stop using this office for your… distractions,” Sterling finally said, settling into the armchair opposite Kevin’s desk. His voice was stern, yet there was a weariness beneath it. “You’re the alpha now. You need to learn restraint.”

Kevin took his time buttoning his shirt, his expression carefully neutral. “What is it you want, Dad?” he asked quietly, though the tension in the room was thick.

Sterling exhaled sharply and leaned forward, his gaze piercing. “Why are you spreading rumors about Phoebe?”

Kevin’s jaw tightened in response. “I’m not spreading rumors. I’m just setting the record straight.”

“You’re risking everything,” Sterling warned gravely. “If the king hears about what you’ve done, you’ll destroy this pack.”

“He won’t,” Kevin snapped back, his voice edged with bitterness. “And once he finds out what she really is, he’ll reject her.”

Sterling frowned, brows knitting together. “You rejected her yourself, Kevin. You didn’t want her. So why do you keep her name on your lips?”

Kevin’s smile was bitter, lacking any warmth. “I never said I didn’t want her. I rejected her because I had no choice. But she’s still mine.”

Sterling shook his head slowly. “You’re playing with fire, son.”

Kevin stood up, straightening his collar with deliberate calm. “I’m the alpha now. My word is law. You don’t have to understand it.”

“You won’t survive the king’s wrath,” Sterling said flatly, his voice heavy with warning.

Kevin turned to face his father fully, a cold, sharp grin spreading across his face. “The king’s fury isn’t my problem anymore, Dad. I’ve already dealt with that.”

The look he gave Sterling was enough to send a chill crawling down his father’s spine.

Phoebe’s POV
At first, there was nothing but darkness—a vast, endless void that swallowed everything around me.

Slowly, memories began to surface, jagged and fragmented. Flashes of pain and fear collided with hazy glimpses of my past life. Blurred faces appeared, accompanied by echoes of laughter that once cut like knives—laughter so cruel it stripped away the very essence of what it meant to be human.

Each vision stabbed at my heart, leaving me breathless as I drifted between the thin line of dream and memory.

Then came the voices—familiar and terrifying. I saw myself again, broken and desperate, begging for the torment to end. The nightmare wrapped tighter around me until I felt like I might drown in its suffocating grip.

“Please… no more…” I whispered, my voice trembling.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my neck, and I jerked awake with a strangled cry. My chest rose and fell rapidly as I clutched the sheets, struggling to separate dream from reality.
