**Chapter 209: Where Are You?**
**Jake’s POV:**
As the call abruptly cut off in the midst of the meeting, a bitter smile crept across my face, a hollow gesture that masked the turmoil within.
It was painfully clear now—Deanna had truly severed all ties with me. The realization hit harder than I anticipated; she wasn’t merely pretending or playing hard to get. No, she genuinely didn’t love me anymore.
Each time that thought echoed in my mind, I was engulfed by an oppressive silence that settled over me like a suffocating blanket. The weight of despair clawed at my insides, dragging me deeper into an abyss of endless darkness.
For a long time, I sought refuge in my solitude, shunning the world outside. But when I caught wind that she would be attending today’s meeting at Jetton Mall, I felt an irresistible pull.
Just the prospect of hearing her voice—even if it was to reject me—was enough to stir something within my deadened heart, coaxing it to beat once more.
I longed to see her, to catch a glimpse of the woman who had once filled my life with so much light.
With that singular thought igniting a spark of determination, I rose from my seat and stepped out into the hallway, my heart racing with a mix of hope and dread.
**Third-person POV:**
Deanna had endured a grueling day at work, and by the time she clocked out, the sun had long since dipped below the horizon, leaving the world cloaked in darkness.
As she made her way toward the underground parking lot, an unexpected darkness enveloped her when the lights flickered and went out without warning.
Her heart raced, tightening in her chest. Instinctively, every nerve in her Omega body flared to life, sending chills racing up her spine.
In a moment of panic, she pressed the button on her car key, and the familiar beep of her red car echoed through the oppressive silence, providing a small measure of comfort.
But then, the unsettling sound of hurried footsteps behind her pierced the stillness, heavy and urgent, a stark contrast to the eerie quiet of the parking lot.
Deanna spun around, her wolf-like night vision barely able to make out a shadowy figure lurking in the darkness.
Before she could fully comprehend the danger, a wooden stick swung down with alarming speed, connecting violently with her head.
Pain erupted like fireworks in her skull, and in an instant, darkness consumed her, dragging her into unconsciousness.
Yet, just as she slipped away, a powerful surge coursed through her body, reaching deep into the quiet, sealed-off chamber of her soul.
In that long-forgotten void, she sensed a faint echo of Mila’s presence, a whisper that stirred something deep within her.
Dorothy, wielding the stick, dropped it with a casual flick of her wrist. Her eyes glinted with a cold, deadly light, reminiscent of a serpent poised to strike. A cruel smile played on her lips as she gazed down at Deanna’s unconscious form.
