Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 215

**Chapter 215: I Didn’t Ask for This**

**Jake’s POV:**

“Did you tell her or not?” I insisted, my voice strained as I lay in the hospital bed, frustration bubbling within me.

Thora, standing at the foot of my bed, tugged at the corner of her mouth, a mix of amusement and exasperation dancing in her eyes. “I told her, alright. But what do you want me to do if Deanna doesn’t respond? Drag her here? You’re not a diamond; women don’t just line up because you’re breathing.”

I couldn’t help but frown, irritation clawing at my insides. It had been an entire week since I had regained consciousness, and not a single glimpse of Deanna had crossed my sight.

Cold. That woman was as cold as ice.

I had taken a knife for her, and yet she couldn’t even muster the strength to show her face?

Thora muttered under her breath, barely audible, “If you’d known it would come to this, maybe treating her better in the first place would’ve been wise.”

“Shut up!” I snapped, my patience fraying like an old rope, the dull ache in my chest flaring up once more.

“You think I wanted to be here, taking care of you? With your Alpha temper? Honestly, Deanna must have been out of her mind to chase after you back then,” she retorted, her tone sharp as a knife.

“Thora.” I growled her name through gritted teeth, my body tense with frustration. If I had the strength, I would have tossed her out of the room without a second thought.

Just then, a soft knock echoed through the door.

I assumed it was a nurse coming to change my bandages, so I waved my hand dismissively and called out, “Come in.”

To my surprise, the door swung open, and there stood Deanna.

In that very moment, the sterile scent of the hospital was overwhelmed by the familiar, sweet aroma of her Omega pheromones—a scent I had been yearning for day and night.

My heart raced, and my eyes lit up with hope.

Thora blinked in disbelief. “Deanna … You actually came?”

I coughed to clear my throat and shot Thora a cold glare. “Aren’t you leaving?”

Thora rolled her eyes, the tension between us palpable.

“Right. Deanna, I just remembered I have something to do. Later!”

With that, she hurried out, closing the door behind her with a soft click.

I couldn’t tear my gaze away from Deanna, my eyes drinking in every inch of her.

She was dressed simply today, in casual clothes that somehow only highlighted her beauty. God, I missed her scent. I missed everything about her.

Her eyes fell to the thick white bandages wrapped around my chest, and I could see the concern etched on her face.

“Thank you for taking that hit for me,” she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Deanna, as long as you’re okay, none of it matters,” I replied, trying to keep my tone gentle, despite the turmoil inside me.

“Sit down,” I urged, nodding toward the chair nearby.

She didn’t budge. “No need. I’ve got something to do after this.”

“Deanna, do you still hate me?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, the distance in her tone sending a fresh wave of pain through my chest.

I locked my gaze on hers, refusing to blink. “Deanna … could this, just this once, count for something? Maybe cancel out at least some of the shit I put you through before?”
