**The Heart I Buried for You by Serene Lockwood**
**Chapter 223: Is She Really That Sick of Me?**
**Luis’s POV:**
As Deanna settled into her seat across from me, a grin broke free on my lips, despite the tension that had been building inside. The anticipation of sharing this meal with her had kept me from touching any food, and I had meticulously ordered all her favorite dishes, hoping to create a moment she would cherish.
Yet, just as I began to feel the warmth of our shared space, she abruptly excused herself, rushing away to the restroom. The sound of her retching echoed in my ears, and a wave of concern washed over me. *Is she really that sick of me already?*
When she returned, her eyes cast downward, she spoke in a flat tone that struck me like a cold gust of wind. “There are plenty of people dying to eat with Mr. Eaton. Clarissa, for one, is great at taking care of you. You don’t need me.”
Her words stung, and my initial annoyance flared up again. But as I took a moment to really look at her, I noticed the subtle tremor in her hands and the way her shoulders slumped. I let out a soft laugh, reclining against the sofa, allowing my arm to drape casually over the backrest. “What, Ms. Wiley, are you jealous?”
She lifted her gaze to meet mine, her expression inscrutable, her voice icy as she replied, “Not at all. Mr. Eaton and I are strangers now. I’m only here as the head of Mistbane Group to report on the project.”
A crooked smile played on my lips, half-mocking, half-amused. *She’s right, isn’t she?*
How could someone like her ever feel jealousy? It was as if she had locked her heart away, hidden behind layers of professionalism and emotional distance.
Just then, my phone buzzed insistently in my pocket, pulling me from my thoughts. I glanced at the screen and answered without hesitation.
“Luis, the Alpha of Blackcreek Pack is coming in a few days. We’ll be meeting with them soon, so make sure to fit the meeting into your schedule,” Grandma’s voice crackled through the line, her tone brisk and authoritative.
**Deanna’s POV:**
I was seated close enough to Luis to catch the unmistakable sound of Ruth’s voice on the other end of the line. Instantly, I straightened up, the mention of Blackcreek Pack sending a jolt of anxiety through me.
I recalled the whispers of Luis’s impending marriage to someone from that very pack. *So it’s official—they’re really making the arrangements now…*
The mere thought of it sent the nausea I had barely managed to suppress surging back to the surface, threatening to overwhelm me.
