Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 263

**Chapter 263: We’re Not Friends Anymore**

**Deanna’s POV:**

A week had slipped by in a blur, each day blending into the next like the pages of a forgotten book.

My life had settled into a monotonous rhythm—work, home, and then back to work again, like clockwork.

It was as if Ruth’s phone call had been nothing more than a fleeting dream, a whisper that faded into the background of my daily existence.

Yet, beneath the surface of my routine, I could feel the currents of change swirling within me.

I found myself contemplating a bold idea: perhaps it was time to leave Nordvale behind, to take Kathryn and seek out a fresh start in a place where the echoes of the past wouldn’t haunt me.

The day of my three-month prenatal checkup arrived, and Violet, ever the supportive friend, insisted on accompanying me to the hospital.

As I sat in the waiting room, I was surrounded by a mountain of paperwork, each form a reminder of the life I was bringing into the world. When I reached the section labeled “father,” I hesitated, my pen hovering over the blank line. After a moment of contemplation, I chose to skip it entirely.

Violet, ever observant, leaned in closer, her brow furrowed with curiosity.

“Deanna, did anything happen that night when Luis took you away?” she inquired, her voice low, almost conspiratorial.

I continued filling out the forms, my voice flat as I replied, “No.”

Violet rolled her eyes dramatically. “Nothing? Then why did he whisk you away on my birthday? You missed me blowing out candles for the first time ever!”

With a playful smirk, I finished the last of the paperwork and handed it to the nurse. “You had two handsome werewolves, Robert and Erik, taking turns celebrating with you. Stop complaining.”

Violet snorted, unimpressed. “Don’t try to change the subject.”

I chuckled, “Robert is a total playboy, but Erik seems alright.”

Violet nodded thoughtfully, her expression shifting to one of seriousness. “He’s definitely in better shape than Robert, but honestly, I’m too focused on work right now. I need to make the most of things before I hit 30. After all, actresses don’t stay in their prime for long, you know.”

The nurse called me in for a series of tests—bloodwork, an ultrasound, an EKG, and a plethora of other assessments.

Half an hour later, the doctor returned with the results, a warm smile spreading across her face.

“Your baby is perfectly healthy and even developing ahead of most pups at this stage,” she announced, handing me the ultrasound image. “Just remember to keep your stress levels down.”

I thanked her, clutching the ultrasound tightly as I stepped out into the waiting area. Violet was there, her excitement palpable.

We gazed at the little shape on the scan, a mix of awe and joy lighting up our faces.
