Chapter 29 You Have Embarrassed Us

Jillian’s POV:

“Ms. Dugan, the Ms. Wiley you just mentioned–surely you mean my daughter, Jillian Wiley?” Philip asked, echoing the exact thought racing through my mind.

But Pamela simply gave a cold smile. “I’m afraid not. The investment was secured by Ms. Deanna Wiley. Our company is committing eight billion dollars because of her–not Jillian Wiley.”

The room instantly exploded with noise.

“Wait, so it wasn’t Jillian who landed the deal? It was Deanna this whole time?”

“She took credit for something she didn’t even do. How shameless can a person be?”

“Typical. First, she tried to steal Deanna’s parents, and now she’s trying to claim Mistbane Pack’s spotlight too.”

“What a joke.”

Cameras flashed wildly as reporters leaned forward, eager for more drama. The lights were so bright they burned my eyes. I blinked, struggling not to cry.

It felt like I was being stripped bare in front of everyone, humiliated in the one moment that was supposed to belong to me.

How did everything fall apart this fast?

“Ms. Dugan, you must be mistaken! I’m the one who met with the Alpha Lusi. I brought this investment in–how can you say otherwise?” I protested, my voice rising.

But Pamela’s expression didn’t waver. “You think I’d confuse a deal worth eight billion dollars? I’ll only sign this contract with Deanna.”

I turned to Philip, panicked. “Dad, don’t believe her! What if Deanna paid her off? Let me call Luis–once I speak to him, he’ll clear it all up!”

I reached for my phone–only to realize with dread that I didn’t even have Luis‘ number.

Pamela’s expression darkened. “Ms. Jillian, are you questioning my professionalism? Mr. Wiley, if Ms. Deanna isn’t the one signing on behalf of Mistbane Pack, then I’m afraid Mooncrown Pack will be withdrawing our eight–billion–dollar investment.”

Philip’s face hardened as he turned to me. “Jillian, you’ve embarrassed Mistbane Pack enough. That’s enough. Get off the stage.”

He told me to get down. Just like that.

He had never spoken to me that way–at least not until Deanna came back.

My lips trembled as I grabbed his arm. “Dad, I swear, I brought in the investment–please believe me!”

But he pulled away. “That’s enough. Stop making a scene.”

Then, forcing a smile for Pamela, he said, “There was a miscommunication among our team. Jillian and Deanna are both my daughters, and they both represent Mistbane Pack. Ms. Dugan, if this deal is thanks to Deanna, then I’ll have her come up right now to sign the contract.”

Heart pounding, I stumbled back to my seat, my heels clicking furiously on the floor.

I snatched up my purse, glared at Deanna like I could burn a hole through her, and stormed out of the banquet hall, tears streaming down my face.

Kathryn’s POV:

As I watched Jillian storm off, for the first time, I didn’t run after her. I didn’t offer comfort, or even feel the urge to.

The thought of tomorrow’s headlines alone gave me a pounding headache–I didn’t have the strength left to worry about her feelings.

Just then, Beta Tessa rushed up to Deanna. “Ms. Wiley, Alpha has instructed you to sign the

contract on behalf of Mistbane Pack.”

Deanna remained seated, unfazed. “Funny. Dad didn’t even want me here in the first place. Now he suddenly remembers I exist?”

Tessa’s tone turned diplomatic. “That was a misunderstanding, Ms. Wiley. Right now, the bigger picture is what matters.”

Deanna scoffed. “A misunderstanding? Really, Tessa? Do you actually believe that?” She took a slow sip of champagne, showing no intention of moving.

Tessa’s eyes darted to me, silently pleading for help.

I cleared my throat and forced myself forward. “Deanna, Mistbane Pack needs you. Don’t be difficult right now, okay? Just go up there and sign the contract.”

But she clutched her chest dramatically, her voice tight with emotion.

“Mom, that’s not what you said earlier. You called me useless and said I never stepped up. Said I’d never be as good as Jillian, that I only ever stirred up trouble, and warned me not to be rude to her. Do you know how much that hurt?

“And it’s always the same. Jillian’s your precious daughter. And me? I’m just the mistake. Whenever we fight, you take her side without even listening to me…”

I quickly cut in, trying to defuse the situation.

“I’m sorry, alright? I really am. I promise I’ll treat you fairly from now on–no more blaming you, no more comparisons. Just this once, okay? Can you forgive me?”

Deanna shrugged off the sentiment and muttered, “No.”

I clenched my jaw, trying to stay calm. “Then what do you want? Just tell us what it’ll take for you to sign the contract. If it’s within reason, we’ll agree.”

She turned to Tessa, her tone suddenly businesslike. “Tell my dad I want 30 percent of Mistbane Pack’s shares. Ten percent was already promised to me for securing this deal. The other 20 is for the humiliation I endured tonight.”

I inhaled sharply.

With 30 percent of shares, Deanna would become the second–largest shareholder–someone with real influence in the company.

But we were cornered.

The Mooncrown Pack had made one thing crystal clear. If Deanna didn’t sign, the eight- billion–dollar investment was off the table.

I glanced at Tessa and gave a subtle nod, signaling her to ask Alpha for instructions.
