Chapter 87 Heartbreak

Deanna’s POV:

Luis had to leave on a business trip, but my birthday party was this weekend.

That meant he wouldn’t be able to make it back.

I had planned to bring him with me, just so everyone from my pack would see that I was completely done with Jake.

But now, it looked like I’d have to handle it alone.

I could already imagine Kathryn’s face when she saw me show up by myself.

I didn’t have time to dwell on the small sting of disappointment. Work pulled me in again.

Next quarter’s performance review was coming up, and I still had to go head–to–head with Desmond.

Lately, he had been doing everything he could to win over the senior shareholders.

Most of them were old–timers who had followed Philip from the beginning. Deep down, they only respected the traditional

successor.

To them, I was just someone who showed up 20 years late. Even if I carried the bloodline, they didn’t see me as truly one of them. They looked down on me as an outsider who parachuted into the director’s seat.

So this time, Desmond had a big chance of winning.

I shook my head, sighed, and leaned back in my chair, feeling the weight in my body.

Suddenly, Luis’s arrogant words came to mind. He actually offered to give me the pack.

Back then, I brushed it off as a joke. I didn’t dare take it seriously. But now, just remembering it warmed me inside.

For a high–level Alpha, handing over power and resources meant far more than saying, “I like you.”

Thinking about that, I grabbed my phone.

Right on the screen was a message from Luis, sent ten minutes ago.

“Miss me yet?”

I could almost see the smug look on his face as he typed it.

My lips curved into a smile, and I quickly typed, “Not really.”

A new photo arrived almost instantly.

“And what’s this picture supposed to mean?”

That was the selfie I posted this morning.

I was wearing a beige silk blouse, buttoned all the way up, just smiling lightly into the camera. I never thought he’d actually see it-

The corner of my mouth twitched. My fingers flew across the screen. “Mr. Eaton, you’re reading too much into it. It was a normal

selfie.”

Luis replied almost instantly, “Wait for me. I’ll deal with you when I get back.”

Staring at those words on the screen, I couldn’t help but smile.

This man really was overbearing.

I was about to type back when my phone rang. It was Terence.

Terence was Jake’s childhood friend, one of the few people from the Olsendreich Pack who was always kind to me.

I pressed the answer button.

“Deanna, it’s my birthday today. Are you coming?”

Every year before, Jake would take me to Terence’s birthday party.

Setting Jake aside, Terence was a good friend.

But if it was his birthday, Jake would probably be there.

I didn’t want to see him.

“Sorry, I can’t make it this year. I’ll send you a gift later.”

There was a pause on the line.

“Deanna, are you and Jake really over?”

“Yes. We’ve broken up,” I said calmly, without a trace of hesitation.

Terence sighed. “Alright. I understand. Deanna, you’re not just Jake’s friend. You’re mine too.”

When the call ended, I thought about it, then transferred 10,000 dollars as a birthday gift as per the werewolf tradition.

After that, I was just about to turn off my phone and get back to work when Violet’s name flashed on the screen.

It was a voice call.

“Babe, I just broke up!”
