Selina raised an eyebrow lazily. "A joke? What exactly are people supposed to laugh at?"
Riley sighed in fake exasperation. "In case they say you’re being unreasonable even when you’re in the right..."
"I am in the right," Selina replied flatly. "So what if I’m unreasonable?"
She looked Riley dead in the eye. "Was it me who told Manager Sanders to threaten me? Was it me who messed up the booking?"
Besides, whether it was really the hotel’s mistake was still up for debate.
Selina strongly suspected Riley had impersonated her, and Sanders had just assumed Riley was the "Miss" the Foster VP meant.
Riley bit her lip and put on a troubled expression. "Selina, I know the hotel was at fault. But I can’t just vacate the studio now—our marketing team is already shooting. If Logan himself asked me, of course I’d move. But otherwise..."
Hearing that, Selina moved to pull out her phone.
Riley’s voice sharpened a little with smugness, though she tried to keep it sympathetic.
"Selina, don’t tell me you’re planning to complain to Logan? I’ve been meaning to tell you—not every little work issue needs to go to him directly. I heard about that Stone Assistant thing."
"Stone was with Logan for ten years, and he got demoted because of you tattling. Do you know how much morale that killed? How can you be so reckless..."
"Logan wants to spoil me. None of your business." Selina lifted her lashes indifferently.
"If I feel like it, I’ll snitch every day. Fire one person a day. Nelson Miss, you’re Logan’s employee too—maybe you’re next."
Silence.
The onlookers all sucked in a sharp breath. Damn. Selina had guts, talking like that right in front of Madam Nelson and Riley. Wasn’t she worried about making an enemy of the whole Nelson Family?
Madam Nelson’s face darkened, rage flaring. "You little bastard, what did you just say?!"
"Mom." Riley bit out, glaring at Selina.
"Selina, I said—you can get Logan to order me out if you want. But do you really think he’ll back you up when you’re being so unreasonable?"
She put on an angelic, generous act.
"I can ask my team to wrap up faster so you can use the studio sooner. Don’t blame Manager Sanders."
Sanders nearly wept with gratitude. "Thank you, Miss Nelson. You truly are beautiful, kind, and understanding."
Riley smiled sweetly. "Selina, so will you head back to your office, or wait here? We’ll probably finish shooting by five this afternoon. You can work overtime tonight if you need to..."
"No." Selina cut her off.
Riley gave her that patronizing tone, as if Selina was the unreasonable child. "Don’t be like that. Don’t be so stubborn that you waste your entire team’s time..."
"Miss Nelson."
Selina genuinely marveled at how thick Riley’s skin was—twisting things around to make it sound like Selina was the one wasting everyone’s time?
"I said no because..."
Her eyes flicked past Riley to someone hurrying over, and her lips curled.
"...you’re about to get kicked out."
...
Riley’s polite smile cracked. Her face fell, voice turning cold. "Selina, that’s a pretty shitty joke."
"I’m not joking."
And as Selina finished, the pudgy figure finally reached them.
Manager Sanders’s face lit up in relief. He immediately tried to spin it in Riley’s favor.
"Vice President Foster! You’re just in time—this woman is disturbing our VIP guest—"
Foster VP held up a hand for silence.
Sanders froze, shutting his mouth instantly. He had no clue what Foster was up to.
Riley’s cheeks flushed pink. So this was Foster VP? Logan hadn’t just booked out the whole hotel for her—he’d even brought Foster himself to back her up! She felt giddy with excitement.
Madam Nelson was beaming too, eyes fixed on Foster VP, waiting eagerly for him to throw Selina out.
