His brows bore a striking resemblance to Ophelia.

A sound escaped his throat: “Jules!”

Julian said, “Mommy and Ronnie got married inside, Dad, you should go back to New York.”

Augustus’s eyes were filled with pain, and he kept pounding the thick glass with his fists.

“No, that’s absolutely impossible, your mommy loves me, Jules, I’m begging you, open the door, I need to see your mommy, I have to see her!”

“Mommy, take good care of yourself. I made a fake video to make Daddy think you’re inside with Ronnie. Focus on your research; your son will always be your support and will come back to see

you. But right now, Dad needs me more.”

Julian carried Augustus away.

Ophelia stood there, watching Julian climb step by step up the staircase Augustus had dug.

Ronald walked over.

He supported Ophelia, who nearly stumbled.

“Jules leaving–isn’t that what you wanted?”

Ophelia nodded, “Don’t tell Jules about my illness. Let him think I can stay in here for another twenty–three years.”

Once again, this place was sealed away.

Everything Augustus had dug was buried and covered up.

In the days that followed.

Augustus lived in a daze, never mentioning going to the Pacific to find Ophelia again.

His mind was haunted by images of Ophelia and Ronald kissing.

“Jules, what does your mommy do in there every day?”

“Experiments. Seven years ago, Mommy brought her research there, and it had a huge impact, saving many young lives. The research can purify nuclear pollution in seawater, and Mommy even plays with those little creatures herself.”
