The fire upstairs was growing bigger and bigger.
Water began to seep into the rooms downstairs as well.
Bit by bit, it was destroying the home he and Ophelia had built.
Augustus watched the scene unfold.
He started climbing upstairs.
The fire in the research lab was finally extinguished.
The room was filled with the smell of burning and smoke.
For a long time, Augustus just stood there, numb.
A firefighter said, “Mr. Reynolds, we can’t save anything in here, but fortunately, no one was hurt.”
Augustus walked step by step toward the research lab.
He saw the laboratory, now unrecognizable, and remembered all those days and nights spent there with Ophelia.
They had loved and worked together in this place.
Everything they had was here.
Suddenly, Augustus wondered why he and Ophelia had ended up like this.
Was it because of Kimberly?
It seemed so, but also not.
He saw Kimberly’s tear–streaked face.
But in his mind, all he could see was Ophelia’s face.
Deep down, he wished Ophelia would cry.
In the past ten years, Ophelia had never shown weakness in front of him.

She was always so calm.
Even though it was Ophelia who liked him first.
She would quietly stay by his side, giving him whatever he needed.
When he was hungry, Ophelia would notice and go get him food. Even if she had little money, she would buy him an expensive meal.
When he had conflicts with friends, she would stand in front of him, taking the blow that was almost meant for him.
He would hold her, asking for more, even though she was clearly uncomfortable.
But she would soften her body, letting him do as he pleased.
That was the only time she ever cried.
Later, she accompanied him in starting a business and having a child.
She never shed another tear in front of him.
She was so strong she seemed almost cold, as strong as steel.
She did everything for him, but never once complained of being tired.
Later, he tested her more and more, wanting Ophelia to rely on him.
But except for their son, Ophelia had no weakness.
But he forgot that he was also Ophelia’s weakness.
When Kimberly appeared, he hadn’t planned to take care of her himself. After all, helping a friend could just mean giving a generous sum of money, like 1,000, and letting someone else look after her.
But he chose to bring Kimberly home.
Sure enough, when Kimberly entered their lives, Ophelia finally reacted.
The closer he got to Kimberly, the more Ophelia’s expression changed.
She was jealous, and Augustus was delighted.
Then things became uncontrollable.

His attention was truly drawn to Kimberly, his heart disturbed by her crying.
And he forgot about Ophelia.
He forgot that the reason he brought Kimberly back was because of Ophelia.
The secretary walked over, stepping through the water on the floor.
“Mr. Reynolds, someone wants to see you.”
Augustus went downstairs, into an office.
He met with a lawyer.
“Hello, Mr. Reynolds. I am Ms. Flynn’s attorney. This is a divorce agreement, and also a document for the relinquishment of Julian’s custody.”
Augustus looked at the space where Ophelia had already signed her name.
His fingers were trembling.
“Where is my wife?”
Augustus’s face was dark, his whole demeanor brimming with suppressed anger.
The lawyer said, “I’m sorry, Ms. Flynn has authorized me to handle all the divorce procedures for her. Please sign.”
Augustus lost his temper, his eyes full of fury.
“Tell her to come out. Julian is my son, the Reynolds Group was built by both of us, she is my wife, I want her to meet me in person.”
