Chapter 347: Husband’s whereabouts_Part 1

"Do you see what I told you, my Lord?" Lady Louisiana exclaimed as she paced around the drawing room, her face carrying a sour, bitter look of distress. "This is exactly what I was afraid of since the very day she came into our lives. A tarnished name and now a scandal! Isabelle will be the fall of the Dawsons!"

Duke Griffin sat heavily on the chair, shaking his legs in agitation, mirroring the restlessness of his wife. "What shall we do now, since the rumors have already begun to spread about what she did and how she behaved?"

He had fought tirelessly to protect his family’s name after the disgrace that had happened many years ago, but it seemed history was repeating itself all over again, and ironically, once more because of another Isabelle. Rumors were already saying she had gone insane, and people were beginning to question their family, dragging back into the open matters from the past that were better buried.

He had been preparing himself to go to the court when his unconscious daughter had been carried into the house by a bleeding vampire, only for them to then hear from his wife’s so-called friends, who had invited themselves to their house for tea that evening, about the disgraceful scene that had unfolded in the shop. The whispers said Isabelle had attacked the Baron without reason, breaking his arm and nearly killing him right on spot with a thick iron.

She had gone out and disgraced their family name in public with her madness, and now everyone was talking about it. There was no doubt that by tomorrow it would be printed in the newsletters, and their family would once again become the laughingstock of society, all because of another Isabelle!

"What shall we do now? If His Majesty hears that the girl we sent to marry into Nightbrook has gone sick in the head, we might get ourselves into serious trouble for ruining everything for Aragonia," Lady Louisiana remarked, her voice and expression heavy with worry. "He might even doubt the report she wrote."

"I don’t know, Louisiana. I wish we never had the girl. If I could turn back time, I would have gotten rid of her the very day we noticed she wasn’t ours anymore. That girl will ruin us entirely if we don’t find a solution quickly, something to clear this matter up before she returns to the vampires’ land and leave our name in another ruin." Duke Griffin said as he massaged the sides of his head, frustration evident in his every movement.

Lady Louisiana walked over to her husband and sat beside him on the chair, placing her hand gently yet firmly on his shoulder as she gave her own suggestions on how to clear up their names. After all, she had married into the Dawson family not to live with scandal but to rise above it, and she had no intention of letting her name or position be sullied because of that girl. She was a respectable woman in society, and she would do anything, anything at all, to maintain that image.

"The best we can do is send a gift of apology to the Baron and his fiancée, and then..." Lady Louisiana’s eyes narrowed as she grew thoughtful, her voice dropping into calculated tones before she continued, "We must make sure Belle comes back to her senses before the day of the ball. She must attend it looking sane, noble, and proper. That way, we can spread the word that what happened in the shop was nothing but gossip exaggerated out of proportion, and that Belle only attacked Mr. Marchant because she felt betrayed that he moved on so quickly from her to marry another woman."

She leaned closer, her eyes gleaming as she reminded him when he frowned, "You remember I told you she had something with that man in the past?"

The Duke’s frown deepened. "You mean the foolish love she had for him and her desire to marry him?" He had known about it because his wife had told him long ago, but he had never stopped the girl from seeing Jamie Marchant. Back then, he had only been looking for a way to get rid of her from their family, and if she got married to the man, he hadn’t cared, at least until they found a better use for her. Now that his wife had brought it up again, he looked at her sharply, and she nodded her head in confirmation.

Lady Louisiana smiled, her lips curling with satisfaction. "We can use that to our advantage, and people will easily believe it, that her heart was broken, and in her grief, she behaved in such a way. Considering she has lived among the vampires for an entire year, it will be understandable if society thinks she picked up their savage and uncivilized ways. That way, her behavior will be blamed on them, not on us. Do not trouble yourself too much over this, my Lord. I will handle everything on the day of the ball."
