Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 462

Chapter 462: Suspicious_Part 2

"Papa...!" Angel wrapped his small arms around his father’s neck, trembling and sobbing, his tears wetting Rohan’s collar.

Rohan hugged his son, running a soothing hand up and down his back as he turned his hardened eyes toward the onlookers and demanded sharply, "What happened?" His tone was edged with fury, he could not tolerate anyone harming his son. Never once had he returned home to find Angel in tears; his boy was always cheerful, eager to greet him, and ready to be lifted into the air with laughter.

It was Rav who stepped forward to answer, his expression grim. "Angel said his mother sent him to bring her blood tea since the baby was demanding it. The servants gave it to him as they couldn’t deny the young master’s request to carry the tray. He had reached the top of the stairs when he lost his footing and tumbled down, breaking his head and knees. Thankfully, he healed immediately, but the pain is still there as it wasn’t a small fall."

Even as Rav spoke, the words tasted wrong to him. He couldn’t believe anyone would send a small child to carry something so dangerous, not when there were servants around. Had Angel been human, that fall from the top of the stairs would have killed him. Rav had rushed out at the sound of his fall and scream.

"Where is my wife?" he asked, his arms tightening protectively around Angel. Belle would never have sent their boy to run such errands. She pampered him so much that even the stairs were something she didn’t like him climbing carelessly, much less sending him to carry a heavy tray with a hot teacup up the long flight of steps.

Even before Rav could say that Lady Belle was in her room, she came rushing down the steps with a panicked, sickened expression, calling out, "Oh my world! Angel, what happened to him? Why is he crying so loudly? Who hurt my son?!" Cordelia forced tears to her eyes as she descended the steps. To anyone watching, she looked like a terrified mother desperate to reach her injured child.

In truth, she had ignored the brat’s cries the entire time until she heard Rohan’s voice in the hall. The last thing she needed was for him to suspect why she hadn’t shown up when the boy was crying.

"Oh, my poor Angel! How did he get hurt?" she cried out, demanding answers from Rav as her eyes darted to the blood on the floor and on the boy’s body.

"He fell from the top of the steps, Isa. He said you sent him to get tea, is that true?" Rohan asked, narrowing his eyes at his wife, who, instead of going straight to check on their son, was questioning Rav about what had happened. It didn’t sit right with him. Not only had she failed to come out until now, but she’d also ignored the sound of their child’s sobs until his own arrival. She couldn’t tell him she hadn’t heard it because he had heard it from outside.

Belle never ignored Angel’s cries...

Cordelia, still in Belle’s form, turned her wide, horrified eyes to Rohan. "I didn’t send him for anything," she said quickly. "I only told him to go and tell the servant to bring me the tea, as my stomach was hurting. Our baby wanted blood." A look of remorse settle on her face and then it turned to hurt. "You don’t believe I would hurt my son, do you? I couldn’t come down fast enough because I was in so much pain that I could barely stand..." she added remorsefully, noticing how his gaze had narrowed down at her like he was suspecting something.

However, her words about being in pain seemed to ease him a little, and concern replaced the tension in his eyes. He stepped closer and placed an arm around her waist to support her.

"Are you still in pain?" Rohan asked quietly, his voice lowering with concern. He knew that although this baby didn’t demand blood as fiercely as Angel once had, it still caused her occasional pain. He couldn’t believe he had even started suspecting there was something wrong with his wife’s behavior. His mind must be overworked to think that way, she smelled the same, bore his mark on her shoulder, and everything about her felt as it always had. So what else could be wrong?

The look in her eyes. Rohan thought to himself.

Rav, who was willing to do anything for the lady and not let her decide to change her mind from his cure, stepped forward to take Angel from Rohan, but the man tightened his arms around his son, who had stopped crying though his body was still shaking. "Let it be, I will take care of him myself."

Rohan walked away from there. He didn’t follow Belle to their room but went straight to Angel’s. He gently set his son down beside the bed, noticing how the boy’s eyes were swollen and red from crying. Angel rubbed his small fists and index fingers against his eyes, sniffling softly.

Rohan went to the closet, took out a clean pair of nightwear, and returned to find the little boy sitting at the edge of the bed with his head bowed, shoulders drooping in silence. Setting the clothes aside, Rohan crouched in front of him and spoke gently, "What is it, little rascal?" He tried to peer into Angel’s face, but the boy slowly lifted his head, his tear-streaked eyes meeting his father’s.

"Papa, Mama lie. Mama say to me before that lying is bad and Angel not learn to lie, but Mama lie that time in the outside hall," he muttered, his lips quivering as if he was about to cry again, but he quickly wiped his face with his sleeve. "Mama tell me to get blood tea for baby, and I got it and falled, but Mama say she did not send me..."

Rohan stared at his son for a moment and then pulled him into his arms again, patting his back gently. One thing was for certain, whenever Angel got words mixed up, he never denied it when it was found out he made a mistake. But him denying it now, Rohan knew the boy was telling the truth.

"What else has Mama done which she doesn’t do before, little rascal?" Rohan asked quietly, rubbing his back.
