Marrying Without My Eight-Year Boyfriend Knowing novel Chapter 53

To avoid disrupting the office, I pulled Melody outside to an empty park nearby, waiting for Jacob to arrive. Melody’s righteous coworkers followed us, along with some well-meaning locals who’d decided to support her. I found myself surrounded, phones aimed at me like a live trial. My "vile mistress" reputation was so well established that I soon hit the local trending list. I kept my composure, even interacting politely with the livestream viewers, which only seemed to fuel the crowd’s anger, each insult growing harsher with every civil response.

Just as their voices started to go hoarse, Jacob finally arrived. He had changed into a suit and held a bouquet of red roses, kneeling before me with an expression of heartfelt devotion.

“Sophie, thank you for giving me another chance. I promise I’ll spend my life loving you.”

I took the roses slowly, opening the ring box. The diamond was huge, blindingly bright, causing Melody’s face to flush with anger. Unable to hold back, she rushed forward.

“Jack, do I even matter to you? I’m your fiancée, and I’m pregnant with your child, yet here you are proposing to another woman right in front of me?”

I chimed in, “Exactly. Chastity is the best dowry a man can offer—I wouldn’t want to be with a rotten cabbage. Jacob, you should return to Melody; she’s your true love.”

Melody raised her hand and slapped me.

“Stop with your smug comments, you bitch!”

I was momentarily stunned. Was she serious? One slap wasn’t enough for her?

Just as I was about to fight back, slap!—Jacob struck her hard across the face. The blow was so powerful it left her reeling, her face swelling and blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. She clutched her cheek, looking at Jacob in shock, as if her whole world had shattered.

True to form, Jacob pushed Melody away forcefully, his voice dripping with cruelty.

“Melody, we’re over. Stop pestering me. Sophie is the only one in my heart.”

“And let’s be real, we only slept together once, and I was drunk. Who knows if that kid you’re carrying is even mine? You played the pure, innocent card, saying we’d wait until marriage, only to climb into my bed yourself.”

“If you hadn’t tempted me, I’d have never betrayed Sophie. You came between us, and now you dare to call her the mistress? Ridiculous!”

Melody screamed, “Jacob, you bastard! I gave you everything, and this is what you do to me!”
