Chapter 166: Chapter 166 He’s Back—And She Doesn’t Care

Author

It was nearly dawn when Silvano and Isabella finally arrived at the Shadow Pack territory. The night sky was beginning to lighten with the first hints of sunrise, casting a soft glow over the forest surrounding their estate.

Isabella had fallen asleep during the drive from the airport, her small body curled up in the backseat, exhausted from their journey. Her face,so much like her father’s,looked peaceful in sleep, her long eyelashes casting tiny shadows on her cheeks.

Carrying his daughter carefully,Silvano climbed the stairs of their home, his powerful frame moving with the silent grace characteristic of an Alpha wolf. As he passed the master bedroom,he noticed the door was ajar, but the room beyond lay in darkness. His wolf stirred within him, immediately sensing something was amiss in their territory.

After tucking Isabella into her bed and pulling the covers up to her chin,he returned to the master bedroom. The dim light he switched on revealed an empty bed,the sheets undisturbed. Freya wasn’t there. His wolf growled softly, displeased by his mate’s absence.

The butler appeared in the doorway with his luggage, his posture respectful as he approached his Alpha.

Silvano loosened his tie with one swift motion, his voice deceptively calm as he asked,"Where is she?"

"Luna Freya left for a business trip,Alpha," the butler replied quickly, avoiding direct eye contact as any subordinate wolf would when delivering potentially displeasing news to their Alpha.

The butler hadn’t personally witnessed Freya’s departure with her luggage half a month ago. He was merely repeating what other pack members had told him—that their Luna had packed her belongings and left, presumably for some business matter.

Silvano’s expression remained unreadable, but his wolf paced restlessly within him. Freya rarely traveled for business in the years since they’d mated, and when she did,it was never for more than two or three days. This extended absence was unusual, especially without prior notice to him.

He merely grunted in acknowledgment, dismissing the butler without further questions. His wolf wanted to track her,to find his mate immediately, but pride keeping him from showing concern.

The next morning at the Shadow Pack headquarters,Freya was focused on reviewing security protocols when a familiar scent hit her senses. Her wolf immediately perked up,alerting her before she even saw him. Silvano was here.

When their eyes met across the lobby,Freya momentarily froze, unprepared for the sudden encounter. Her wolf whined softly, still drawn to her mate despite her human half’s determination to sever their bond.

Surprise flickered briefly across Silvano’s features before his expression settled back into its usual impassive mask. He clearly hadn’t expected to see her at headquarters, assuming she was still away on whatever "business trip" the pack believed she’d taken. Without breaking stride,he walked past her as if she were merely another pack member, his cold demeanor a stark reminder of the distance between them.

In days gone by,his unexpected return would have filled Freya with joy. She would have watched him with adoring eyes, her smile bright even in the face of his indifference, always hoping today might be the day he truly saw her.

But now,she simply lowered her gaze after a brief glance at his handsome face. The excitement and desperate hope that once animated her features when in his presence were noticeably absent. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Silvano hadn’t registered these changes before he left, but something about her lack of response tugged at his wolf’s awareness. Something was different.

As Silvano’s tall figure disappeared down the corridor,Freya found herself wondering when exactly he’d returned. His presence meant the mate-bond severance ritual could perhaps proceed sooner than expected. The thought brought neither joy nor sorrow—just a practical consideration in her new reality.

Having committed herself to breaking their bond,Freya refused to dwell on thoughts of Silvano. She returned to her work station, immediately immersing herself in the security protocols that needed her attention.
