I had already resigned.

Even without today’s incident in Silvano’s office,once they found my replacement,I would leave the Shadow Pack headquarters for good. But I knew that no one here cared about my affairs or my future plans. There was no point in saying anything as I silently turned to leave with the tray of spilled coffee.

Before I made it to the door,I heard Aurora’s honeyed voice gently comforting Silvano,"Come on,Sil,I’m sure she didn’t mean to intrude. Don’t stay angry..."

My wolf growled at the familiarity in her tone,the easy way she used his nickname when even I,his mate,rarely did.

Once alone in the break room,I poured out the remaining coffee and held my scalded fingers under running cold water,then expertly retrieved a small container of healing salve from my bag to apply to the burn. The relief was immediate but temporary,much like most things in my life these days.

After treating my wound,I pushed down the needle-like pain in my chest—the mate bond protesting at what I’d witnessed—and returned to my desk to work. My wolf whimpered inside me,wanting to confront Silvano,to claim what was ours,but I silenced her. We had already decided our course.

Just as I finished organizing security reports,I overheard excited whispers from nearby desks—"I heard the Alpha’s special guest is visiting headquarters today!"

"Special guest? Who is she? What’s her background? Is she beautiful?!"

The chatting wolves noticed me getting up and,remembering they had a meeting scheduled with me,quickly fell silent with awkward smiles. "Work first,gossip later," one mumbled,avoiding my eyes.

I knew their "special guest" meant Aurora. My expression remained carefully blank as I left the office and entered the elevator with my colleagues. I was Luna of this pack,at least in title,yet they spoke of replacement mates right in front of me. The bond between Silvano and me must appear as weak to them as it felt to me now.

Leaving the elevator,heading toward the meeting room,we encountered Aurora approaching with four senior pack officials. The officials crowded around her,their manner careful,fawning,and eager to please a woman they clearly viewed as important to their Alpha.

Aurora was saying with a practiced smile,"Thank you all for taking the time to show me around headquarters."

Dressed in designer clothes that accentuated her lithe wolf form,every movement revealed her elite upbringing and status. Though her words were polite,she carried herself as if already the pack’s Luna,her courtesy tinged with distance,clearly treating the officials as her future subordinates.
