"That's because I have someone perceptive on my side," Nathaniel sneered, his voice dripping with scorn.

"But you? You had Gideon, a so-called strategist who's as dumb as a rock!"

He turned and spat at Elijah, right in the face.

"Bud had seen through your filthy schemes from the very beginning.

"He just chose not to expose your tricks—yet.

"Since you wanted to turn us against each other, I decided to let you die at the hands of your own subordinate!"

Elijah widened his eyes in disbelief. He could not believe that his carefully laid plan had been unraveled from the very start.

Despair crashed over him—He had lost, utterly and completely.

The alcohol in his system accelerated the spread of the poison.

He was dead within half an hour, suffocating to death in agony.

Nathaniel turned his gaze to Gideon.

"Your turn."

However, Gideon suddenly lunged for the ground and grabbed at the dagger Nathaniel had used to stab Elijah. He raised the blade to his throat, ready to take his own life.

His gaze shifted for a moment. He glanced toward a figure in white standing not far away, eyes filled with silent gratitude.

It turned out that Yvette had been worried about her father's safety. She had continuously pleaded with Matthew to bring her to the scene so that she could catch a glimpse of her father.

Unable to resist the persistent coaxing of the children, Matthew caved to their demands and brought them to watch the battle from up close.

He never expected to see Gideon attempting suicide as soon as they arrived.

Such a bloody scene would surely have terrified and traumatized the children, so he quickly knocked away the dagger.
