Mending a Broken Love (Roxanne and Sebastian) novel Chapter 195

"You know how things are between me and my mom. As long as we don't see each other much, that counts as peace," Sebastian said.

Roxanne nodded. "I know."

Kate really was something else.

Sebastian said slowly, "She's always been indifferent toward me. If she suddenly starts acting all concerned about me, then she's definitely up to something. Ten years ago, she went abroad for over a year. When she came back, her attitude toward me completely changed—she became all attentive."

Sebastian let out a cold laugh. When something was off, there would always be a reason.

"So, I looked into it. She tried to cover her tracks, but it wasn't hard to find clues—especially when it's something as big as having a child."

Kate might carry the title of Mrs. Hayes, but she had none of the Hayes family's power or resources. She thought going abroad meant no one would find out, but just a little digging made everything clear.

There was a simple reason behind her sudden attentiveness toward Sebastian—she wanted a bigger monthly allowance.

Ten years ago, her monthly allowance was 200 thousand dollars. She reached out to Sebastian back then because raising a child was expensive, and she needed more money.

Once Sebastian found out she had another son, he raised her allowance to 500 thousand dollars a month.

Roxanne was shocked as she listened. "So, you gave her money to raise her kid?"

Seeing her shock, Sebastian smiled helplessly. "Did you think I was a petty man?"

Roxanne rubbed her nose awkwardly. It wasn't that she thought so but Sebastian's reputation in the industry wasn't exactly saintly.

Sebastian continued calmly, "If she's willing to raise the kid, it means she wants to be a good mother. So, I decided to give her the chance—even if her maternal love isn't for me."

Besides, the child was innocent. And money? That was the one thing Sebastian didn't lack. Spending a few hundred thousand dollars more didn't matter to him.

Sebastian pulled up a file on his phone and handed it to her. "Take a look. It's their little family of three."

Roxanne couldn't resist her curiosity. She took the phone and looked carefully. There were videos and photos—a lot of them.

The photos of the man and the child were especially clear. There were also moments of all three of them interacting together as a family. Kate was seen holding the child in her arms, smiling with happiness while nestled in the man's embrace.

There were photos from the child's birth all the way to age ten, documenting his growth clearly. He looked like a warm, sunny little boy. He must have grown up in a loving home.

For a brief moment, Roxanne actually felt a little sorry for Sebastian.

In those photos, Kate looked like an ordinary, happy woman—with a husband who loved her and a child she cherished.

She looked full of motherly love with the way she was holding and playing with her son. It wasn't that she didn't have love to give; it was just that she never gave it to Sebastian.
