Mending a Broken Love (Sebastian and Roxanne) novel Chapter 72

Roxanne was too weak, but she still managed to lift her hand and slap Sebastian's face. With resentment in her voice, she hissed out the words, "I'm already dying. Can't you just let me go? I don't want to see you! Let's never meet again!"

As soon as she finished speaking, her strength gave out, and she lost consciousness.

Sebastian held her in his arms. A sharp pain twisted in his chest as if something was tearing him apart from the inside.

Clutching her tightly, he carried her to a spot beneath a rocky overhang, seeking shelter from the cold night and the splashing stream. But soon, he realized something was wrong—her body was burning up. She had a fever.

Panic surged through him. He quickly stripped off her soaked clothes and then removed his own clothes, hanging them high on a tree branch in a visible spot.

Her clothes were already tattered from being snagged on branches. He wrung them as dry as he could. As her body temperature kept rising, fear gripped him.

Thankfully, Gordon's team was efficient. They had found a safe way down and, using drones, quickly spotted Sebastian's clothes, which led them straight to him.

"Mr. Hayes!" Gordon called out.

Sebastian stretched out his hand. "Clothes!"

Without hesitation, Gordon stripped off his own jacket and handed it over.

"Turn around," Sebastian ordered. Gordon obeyed, facing away.

Sebastian removed Roxanne's wet garments and wrapped her in Gordon's jacket. If his own clothes hadn't been soaked, he never would have let her wear another man's.

"Do you have fever medicine?" Sebastian asked.

Gordon did. Given his occupation, it was common to carry fever medicine with him. But he didn't hand it over immediately.

"She's been running through the forest for a long time. You should check if she has any other injuries, like a bite from a venomous insect or snake. If the fever is from a bite, fever medicine will only make things worse."

Sebastian's expression darkened. Without wasting a second, he carefully examined her body. Sure enough, he found two distinctive bite marks on her arm.

Gordon took one look and immediately identified the marks. "Snakebite."

He signaled for his team to bring the antivenom. "She needs an injection first. Then, we'll get her to a hospital," Gordon instructed.
