When word got out that Josefina had been kidnapped by Lena, the Harrison family was ready to charge out the door. But then Dorian chimed in, announcing Josefina was safe and sound, and everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Grandpa Robert glanced from Dorian to Garrett, his expression a mix of disappointment and concern. "You two," he sighed, "aren't even half the man Oliver is."
Garrett and Dorian exchanged awkward looks. Ouch—truth hurts.
Dorian tried to explain, "Grandpa, Lena took Josie because she's obsessed with Oliver. She demanded he come rescue Josie alone."
"Look, Grandpa," Dorian continued, "Oliver attracts trouble like a magnet. Josie's always in danger around him."
Reid chimed in, "Dorian's got a point."
But Grandpa Robert wasn't buying it. "You’re all talking nonsense. Oliver's a fine young man. And you, Dorian, got the same message and didn't act. Now you have the nerve to blame him?"
Dorian was at a loss for words. It all boiled down to his failure to protect his sister.
Emily, ever the peacemaker, handed Grandpa Robert his tea. "Now, Robert, there's no need to be so stern. Dorian did the best he could. Let's not nitpick."
Hattie chimed in, guilt evident in her voice, "It’s our fault. How could we have mixed up the babies at birth?"
Garrett explained, "I had booked the hospital for the delivery, but circumstances forced us to go elsewhere. After Josefina was born, I didn't like the place, so we brought you all back home. And that's when the mix-up happened."
Hattie added, "The birth certificate didn’t have the baby's blood type. Just like that, a mistake lasted eighteen years."
The room fell silent, the weight of the past bearing down on them once again.
...
Oliver parked in the Harrisons' underground garage, with Josefina still unconscious beside him.
She was sleeping peacefully, her beauty so striking that Oliver couldn't resist leaning in for a kiss.
Just as their lips touched, Josefina's eyes fluttered open.
She pushed Oliver away, blushing. "What are you doing?"
Looking out the window, she realized they were in the Harrisons' garage.
"Are we on camera here?" she worried.
