Moonlight In Chains (Trinity and Asher) novel Chapter 15

CHAPTER 15

**ASHER POV**

I was in the office with Dad looking over some paperwork for the pack, when Spencer arrived at

the house.

Oh damn,I said.

Asher. If you hate it when he’s here then why did you make him your future Beta for when you take

over?Dad asked.

I have my reasons,I said..

“Are you ever going to let me in on those reasons?Dad asked.

Honestly, right now, you wouldn’t believe me even if I did tell you,I said.

Alright. I just hope you know what you’re doing.Dad said.

I do,I said, walking out of the office.

I met Spencer in the foyer of the house and we had specific Alpha and Beta training today, so we

got stuck into it.

It wasn’t regular combat training. This was more political training. I was really curious to see how Spencer would handle this sort of work.

We were responsible for forming alliances with other packs, establishing contact with them, and resolving any disputes that may have arisen.

We must do this before a war breaks out. We were essentially on damage control. And I needed to keep a close eye on Spencer. I couldn’t have him say the wrong thing to the wrong person, which could start a war. We had to deescalate situations for the good of the pack.

Everything we did was intended for the good of the pack. I had to make sure that Spencer knew that. Being Beta meant that he had to put the pack before anything else. Except for our mates, of course. If Spencer ever finds a mate.

He doesn’t really seem too interested in finding a mate. He just wants to screw as many women as possible.

I feel sorry for the woman who does become his mate. It’s not going to be easy for her to know his

past.

As soon as we arrived at my office, Spencer started complaining almost instantly about the

amount of paperwork involved in being the Alpha and Beta of the pack.

It’s an honor to be in a position like this, and he was definitely happy when I asked him. But now he’s seeing what it’s really like. And I think he’s finally realizing that being Beta means more than just using his title to get random women into bed.

His complaining started giving me a headache within minutes of his being here. I can’t believe that a 23yearold man complains as much as he does. I really didn’t think he was such a spoiled and

entitled brat.

But then again, I have met his parents. And that does tell me a lot. They still dote on him and have

no problem with him still living at home at his age. They don’t even seem to be pushing him to get out there and try to find a mate and settle down. They’re just happy with the way things are at the

moment.

There’s no way my deadbeat 23yearold child will be living in my house. I’ll be forcing them to get the hell out of the house and do something with their life.

I just have to make their mother want to stay in the same room as me first. That was my first

obstacle.

So, who was that girl yesterday? She was the one from the party? What happened?Spencer

asked.

What do you mean? Nothing happened.” I said, sitting behind my desk.

You spent most of the night talking to her and she was hanging around the next day. Do you really expect me to believe that nothing happened?Spencer asked.

I dropped her at home because she was too drunk to get there herself. And then I came home.

She showed up the next day to thank me for taking care of her and then she just didn’t leave. She

was really f*****g annoying to be honest.I said, shaking my head at the thought. And then I

remember the look on Trinity’s face when she saw me with that girl. It felt like I could feel her pain

seeing me with another girl. That’s why I got rid of her as fast as possible after that.

Even her touching me just gave me the creeps. There’s only one woman that I want to be close to right now. And like it or not, I am going to wear her down enough so we can have a decent conversation and get everything out in the open. I know she’s hiding things from me and I am determined to find out what they are.

Once I find out why she’s so hesitant about us being mates, then maybe I might be able to break through that tough exterior she’s got.

My phone ringing brought me out of my thoughts and I answered it.

CHAPTER 15

It was the principal from the high school, letting me know that their tutor is apparently sick. He thought it sounded a bit suspicious, so he decided to call and let me know. Her father claims that she’s come down with a bug. But that’s pretty farfetched, even for werewolves.

But once I found out who the tutor was, I turned to look at Spencer and he was looking through a magazine while sitting on the couch on the other side of the room.

As soon as I hung up the phone I turned to look at Spencer and he was laughing at something he was reading. But once he saw me looking at him, he put the magazine down.

What is it?He asked.

The principal called and said that Trinity is sick. She’s got some sort of bug. Werewolves aren’t known for getting common illnesses. Not with the way we heal.I said, looking at him suspiciously.

Yeah. That is weird. I’ll go and see what’s going on. It was probably mom or dad who called in for her.Spencer said.

Yeah. That’ll be good. Thanks.I said.

Spencer left my office and I sat behind my desk watching him go.

As soon as I was sure he was out of the house, I got up from my desk, followed him out of the house, and made sure I stayed back a fair distance.

When I reached the outside of their house, I knew where Trinity’s bedroom was so I stood in their backyard, hidden behind the shrubbery. But I quickly got a strong metallic smell that didn’t belong.

here. I looked around to see if there was a dead animal around me or something, but there was

nothing. But I could definitely smell blood.

I heard Spencer go into Trinity’s bedroom.

instantly heard him start laughing. He began taunting Trinity, and then I heard him talking to his

mother. Apparently, Trinity had told her parents where to go and they didn’t like it.

Now I was sure that the blood was wafting out of her bedroom.

How badly hurt was she if I could smell the blood down here? There must be a lot of it there.

I didn’t hear Trinity say anything, but when Spencer and his mother left her room, I stayed there. listening for any kinds of sounds.

I could slightly hear her breathing. But that was only because her breath was really shallow, and she let out the occasional whimper and moan. She was in a lot of pain.

I mindlinked Gage and told him where I was. He was also there in a matter of minutes, sneaking around their backyard so that we were outside Trinity’s window.

CHARITH

What’s going on?Gage asked.

Her dad called in sick for her. She won’t be going to work or college today. I don’t know for how long. He claims that she’s sick, but we both know that’s bullshit.I said.

She tries to stay away from this house as much as possible. If she’s staying home, then someone is really wrong.Gage said.
