Moonlight In Chains (Trinity and Asher) novel Chapter 150

**The Day He Forgot He Hated Me by Evangeline Marrow**

The world had shifted irrevocably after that fateful night.

The forest outside was wrapped in an unsettling silence, a stillness that felt anything but tranquil. It was as if the very trees were holding their breath, anticipating some impending event. The air was thick, almost suffocating, charged with an energy that buzzed beneath my skin like a thousand tiny electric shocks. Even the moon, usually a comforting beacon in the night sky, appeared altered, its silvery glow pulsing faintly, as though it were a living entity with a heartbeat of its own.

Sleep had eluded me completely. In fact, none of us had managed to find rest.

Eryx stood near the window of the packhouse meeting room, his gaze lost in the depths of the forest. Beside him, Kaelen and Kaelric were silent sentinels, their faces etched with worry and tension. Asher was close to me, his fingers gently intertwined with mine, his thumb tracing soothing circles against my skin, grounding me in the chaos of the moment.

Arlo had meticulously spread out maps and notes across the table, a chaotic array of information that felt heavy with foreboding. The relics lay there too, each one now dim and silent, their once vibrant energy seemingly drained. It was as if they had sacrificed their power to seal Rafe’s fate, only to awaken something far more sinister.

Finally, Eryx turned to face us, his expression grim. “It’s confirmed. The Original Eclipse has awakened. The connection between the relics is fading because the seal that once held it has been undone.”

Dennis, leaning against the doorway, frowned deeply. “What exactly is this Eclipse, Eryx? You’ve spoken of it as if it possesses a life of its own.”

Eryx’s eyes darkened, a shadow passing over his features. “Because it does.”

A heavy silence enveloped the room, thick with dread. The fire in the corner flickered low, casting uneasy shadows that danced across our faces, as if mirroring our anxiety.

Eryx stepped closer to the table, pointing at the faint energy line Arlo had sketched earlier. “Long before this pack came into existence, before many werewolf bloodlines even began, the power of the Eclipse was a living force…a blend of spirit and energy. It sought equilibrium between light and dark. But when that balance was shattered, it turned against everything.”

Kaelen leaned forward, his voice barely above a whisper. “And now it has awakened once more.”

Eryx nodded solemnly. “When Trinity sealed the shadows, the power within her forged a direct connection to the ancient seal. Her bloodline is intertwined with it…her mark embodies both light and darkness. That is the very essence that draws the Eclipse.”

A chill ran through me, twisting my stomach into knots. “You mean it’s drawn to me.”

“Yes.” Eryx’s voice was low, almost reverent. “You are the final link between both halves. The Eclipse is using that connection to return.”

The impact of his words struck me like a bucket of icy water. I could still feel it… that strange, pulsing sensation deep within my chest, the mark that burned fiercely whenever the moonlight touched it.

Part of me wanted to scream in terror, to lash out against this fate. Yet another part of me understood the truth: the shadows had never truly vanished. They had merely been biding their time, waiting for something powerful enough to draw them back.

Kaelric crossed his arms, frustration evident in his posture. “So what’s the plan? We can’t just sit here and wait for it to come crashing in and obliterate everything.”

Eryx’s gaze flicked between Kaelric and me, his determination unwavering. “We prepare. We harness the bond you all share…that connection is our only weapon now. But Trinity must learn to control the Eclipse energy without allowing it to consume her.”

Arlo frowned deeply. “That sounds like trying to hold fire with bare hands.”

“Precisely.” Eryx affirmed. “And if she loses control, it won’t just incinerate her. It will engulf all of us.”

Asher’s grip on my hand tightened, his presence a solid anchor amidst the rising tide of fear. “Then we ensure that doesn’t happen.”

Eryx nodded, a glimmer of resolve in his eyes. “Training begins at dawn.”

The next morning, the air was so cold it stung my lungs with every breath. The clearing behind the packhouse appeared deceptively serene, frost sparkling like diamonds on the grass. Yet, this calm was merely an illusion.

Eryx initiated our training with energy tests, small pulses of light meant to gauge how my mark reacted. At first, I managed to maintain control, the glow steady and balanced. But as the exercises progressed, something deep within me began to stir.

It wasn’t anger or fear; it was something deeper, more primal—like another heartbeat, one that didn’t belong to me. A slow, rhythmic thrum that ached to break free.

“Again,” Eryx commanded, his tone sharp and unwavering. “Focus on control, not strength.”

I complied, pouring my concentration into the task. The light radiated from my chest, flowing through my arms, bright and alive. The air shimmered around me. Kaelen and Kaelric moved in closer, their energy merging with mine, anchoring me like steadfast pillars in a tempest. Frost melted beneath our feet.

For a fleeting moment, everything aligned perfectly… until a sudden surge of heat ripped through me.

I gasped, stumbling back as the light flared too brightly, and the ground beneath me cracked open with a hissing sound. The acrid scent of burnt earth filled the air.

“Trinity!” Asher shouted, instinctively moving toward me, but Eryx raised a hand, halting him.

“Let her fight it!” Eryx barked. “She must learn!”
