Chapter 160
In order to protect Georgina and her son, he claimed the child
as his own, causing a rift to form in his marriage with Arabella.
He thought that with Arabella’s feelings for him for over twenty years, they could definitely get through this crisis.
But everything was spiraling out of control.
To make this marriage stable and long–lasting, he had to resort
to some tactics.
He believed that a marriage is something you have to work at.
His father and mother had a marriage of convenience, and they
made it through together without any emotional foundation.
If his father could do it, so could he.
Even if Arabella hated him, it would only be temporary.
“Sir, dinner is ready. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back
to the main house now.”
Victoria’s voice pulled Jayceon out of his thoughts.
He stubbed out his cigarette and went into the bedroom.
He walked to the side of the bed and turned Arabella’s body.
“Get up and eat dinner before you go back to sleep.”
Arabella pushed him away, resisting.
Jayceon watched Arabella’s reaction with a complex
expression. He said, “Arabella, do I need to repeat the terms of
our marital agreement for you?”
Arabella sat up, holding back her emotions. Jayceon bent over
to help her out of bed. “Can you walk?”
Before she could answer, he just picked her up.
After helping Arabella with dinner, Jayceon carried her to the
bathroom to get cleaned up, and then finally carried her back to
bed.
Arabella did as she was told, like a soulless puppet.
She knew Jayceon was taking care of her so she would recover
quickly enough to accompany him to the Hongyu Corporation’s
annual gala tomorrow night.
The next evening.
Arabella changed into a relatively conservative Modern Asian
Fusion Gown and sat down at her vanity.
Jayceon took out an emerald and diamond necklace and put it
on Arabella himself.
Looking at Arabella’s near–perfect features in the mirror, an
unreadable emotion flickered in Jayceon’s dark eyes.
It was the first time he had seen Arabella in this kind of Modern
Asian Fusion gown, and he was stunned.
Arabella sat quietly at the dressing table, letting Jayceon place
the expensive necklace on her.
She knew perfectly well that everything Jayceon gave her came
with a price she would have to repay.
He was a businessman; he never made a deal that wasn’t
profitable.
The only person he would give to unconditionally was Georgina.
She replied flatly, “Thank you.”
When Arabella was ready, Jayceon held his tie out to her. She
took it impassively.
A husband and wife, their conversation half–hearted, their
actions perfunctory.
Arabella skillfully tied Jayceon’s tie. As she turned to leave, he
grabbed her by the waist and pulled her into his arms.
He looked into her eyes and reminded her, “Aren’t you
forgetting something?”
They looked at each other, and Arabella stood on her tiptoes to give Jayceon a kiss.
Sensing how perfunctory her kiss was, Jayceon held her tight
and kissed her back.
Trapped in Jayceon’s embrace, she remembered the terrifying sight of him losing control and ravaging her.
She trembled and struggled. “Don’t touch me!”
They looked at each other. Arabella’s face was pale, and she was struggling to breathe.
Jayceon saw the panic and fear in Arabella’s eyes.
His chest tightened, and he quickly let her go.
At eight o’clock that night, Arabella arrived at the Hongyu
annual gala on Jayceon’s arm.
The head of the Hongyu Group saw Jayceon and hurried over to greet them, “Mr. Melendez, Mrs. Melendez, welcome, welcome.”
Jayceon politely shook his hand, the perfect gentleman, “Mr. Walton, you’re too kind.”
Jayceon led Arabella into the hall by the hand.
Arabella watched as a group of business tycoons rushed to
greet Jayceon, and she discreetly let go of his hand.
She had been married to Jayceon for three years, and she was
used to him being the center of attention wherever he went.
“Jay,”
A familiar voice cut through the crowd.
By the time Arabella could see clearly, Georgina was already in front of Jayceon.
Everyone looked at each other.
Mr. Dawson asked Jayceon with interest, “Jay, do you two know each other?”
Jayceon turned his head to look at Arabella.
Arabella stared straight ahead, deliberately ignoring Jayceon’s
gaze.
Jayceon didn’t speak, and neither did she.
Jayceon was the heir to the Melendez family, the city’s most prominent family in Zelmere. The women who could call him “Jay” in public, including his mother Tabitha, were few and far
between.
For Georgina to call him so intimately in front of everyone, even with her as a shield, and even if they both denied it, people
would draw their own conclusions.
Georgina was left hanging by Jayceon, so embarrassed she
didn’t know what to do.
