**Chapter 325**
Jayceon’s movements came to a stark halt, as if time itself had paused around him.
Samuel, feeling the weight of the moment, rubbed his arm gingerly before settling down beside Jayceon. “Is it just me, or are all the men in the Melendez family just… toxic? What’s the point of forcing a marriage without any reason? I spent hours trying to calm Kim down, and now my arm feels like it’s about to burst from all the pinching she did.” His voice carried a mix of frustration and concern, a reflection of the chaos swirling around them.
Jayceon remained silent, his thoughts racing as he processed Samuel’s words. After a brief pause, he finally stood up, resolve flickering in his eyes.
Samuel, sensing the shift, grabbed Jayceon’s arm with a teasing grin. “Ah, so you finally have a reason to head over to the Palmer family, huh? Exciting!”
But Samuel quickly added, “Hold on a second. Don’t get too carried away. You know you won’t even get past the front door if you try to go there.”
Meanwhile, at the Palmer family’s residence, the atmosphere was thick with tension.
Kimberly was curled up on the plush sofa in Arabella’s bedroom, her eyes puffy and red from crying. She looked utterly defeated, her voice trembling as she confided, “Sister-in-law, what if my grandfather and my dad really do sell me off? I can’t even bear the thought of it.”
Arabella, ever the supportive figure, leaned closer to her, trying to soothe her frayed nerves. “Kim, listen to me. The Melendez family is one of the top families in Zelmere’s High Society. If you’re truly going to be married, it has to be to someone of equal standing. It’s just how things work.”
But Kimberly’s expression fell further, her hope diminishing. “Arabella, the truth is, I haven’t met anyone suitable yet. I don’t even know who my grandfather has chosen for me. How could I possibly agree to something like that?”
Arabella watched Kimberly closely, searching for a glimmer of hope in her friend’s eyes. She tentatively suggested, “What about the Brennan family? They’re also one of The Eight Great Clans. You and Sam have been childhood sweethearts; you know him quite well. What do you think about Sam?”
At the mere mention of Samuel’s name, Kimberly seemed to deflate completely.
She extended her hands toward Arabella, her voice filled with desperation. “Arabella, I feel closer to Sam than I do to my own brother. Holding hands with him feels as natural as my left hand holding my right. He’s been my protector since we were kids, and I’ve never once considered anything romantic between us.”
For a moment, Arabella was left speechless, grappling with the weight of Kimberly’s words.
Just then, a WhatsApp notification from Jayceon lit up Arabella’s phone screen, breaking the heavy silence. She quickly opened the message and scanned it.
With a sigh, she tucked her phone away and turned to Kimberly. “Your brother is here to pick you up. He’s waiting at the door. Do you want to go back with him?”
Kimberly looked hesitant, a flicker of intimidation crossing her features as she reluctantly rose to her feet.
Arabella slipped on her coat and guided Kimberly toward the door, her heart heavy with concern for her friend.
As they stepped outside, Jayceon glanced at Kimberly and instructed, “Go wait for me in the car. I need to have a word with your sister-in-law.”
Kimberly nodded obediently and climbed into the car, her heart still racing from the earlier turmoil.
**Chapter 375**
The following morning, Arabella found herself seated at the breakfast table with her parents, the warmth of family enveloping her.
Since her divorce from Jayceon, she had learned to cherish these moments with her parents even more. The simplicity of her current life brought her a sense of peace she hadn’t expected.
Kayla, her mother, looked at her with concern etched on her face. “Has Jayceon not given up? Is he still pestering you?”
Setting her bowl and chopsticks down, Arabella offered a reassuring smile to her parents. “Mom, Dad, there’s no need to worry. He came by last night to pick up Kim, and he just asked me for a small favor.”
Kayla let out a relieved sigh, her shoulders relaxing as the tension eased.
Roderick, her father, chimed in, “We’ve watched that boy grow up. He’s always been reserved and polite—a decent person. Arabella, you’re leaving the marriage with nothing, allowing him to be with that woman. He got what he wanted, so he shouldn’t bother you any further.”
Arabella kept the details of Georgina to herself, knowing the weight of the truth. Georgina was responsible for the death of Jayceon’s half-brother, and there was no way Jayceon would ever let her go.
After breakfast, Arabella took it upon herself to clear the table, her mind already shifting gears as she prepared for her day at the hospital.
