Chapter 33
An apology was simply not going to happen.
They locked eyes, the tension thick in the air.
Jayceon observed her face with an unnerving calmness.
“Since you admit it, then go apologize to Gina,” he said plainly.
A sharp sting of hurt welled up in her eyes, making them glisten with unshed tears.
Still, she held her ground, her voice steady and resolute. “Jayceon, I don’t care how deeply you love her. But you married me. As long as even one day ticks by with us still wed, you and your precious Gina are the ones in the wrong. Your son is illegitimate. And you expect me to apologize to the other woman? Do you even realize how absurd that sounds?”
A flicker of displeasure crossed Jayceon’s gaze. “Arabella, don’t be so harsh. Gina is not the other woman.”
Arabella let out a bitter laugh, mocking herself. “Oh, right. So the one who isn’t loved is the other woman.”
Her expression hardened, a cold edge creeping into her voice. “In your eyes, I’m the other woman, aren’t I?”
Jayceon rubbed his temples, clearly frustrated, then stepped closer. “Arabella, that’s not what I meant.”
She instinctively took a step back, dodging his outstretched hand.
“If you love her so much, then why don’t you just divorce me and marry her?” she challenged. “I don’t want anything from you. I’ll even sign an IOU. I’m willing to step aside.”
Jayceon’s face darkened, his eyes unreadable as he replied, “I have no plans—at least not currently—to remove you as my wife.”
The word “currently” hit her like a punch to the gut.
How official and cold it sounded.
When she fell silent, stunned by his words, Jayceon pressed on.
“Gina is emotionally fragile right now. Go apologize to her. Calm her down. If you don’t, she’ll be terrified.”
The concern in his voice stung Arabella deeply.
Yet, the more her heart ached, the more composed she appeared on the outside.
“It’s not impossible for a useless, rightful wife to apologize to a mistress,” she said slowly. “But I want a press conference. A public apology. Do you dare, Mr. Melendez?”
Jayceon’s eyes narrowed at the formal title. “Arabella, I am your husband.”
She turned her face away, voice sharp. “From the moment your unforgettable love returned with her son and you left me standing in the rain to meet her at the airport, you stopped being my husband.”
His voice dropped low, dangerously calm. “You know I hate being threatened, Arabella.”
Her control finally slipped; her eyes glistened with unshed tears, reddening at the edges. “If you refuse the press conference, then I’ll apologize to her right now—in front of all our colleagues!”
She took a step toward the door, ready to storm out, but Jayceon’s arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against him.
“Dr. Palmer, may I have a moment?” a voice called out.
In the hospital’s main lobby, as she was exiting with a colleague, Georgina stepped deliberately in front of her.
She didn’t address her as “Mrs. Melendez,” choosing instead the more formal “Dr. Palmer.”
Arabella didn’t want any private interaction with her.
She stopped, instinctively pulling her colleague closer. “What is it, Ms. Carrillo?”
Seeing her hesitation, Georgina took a deep breath and apologized right there, in front of the other woman.
“I asked around and found out you’re off tomorrow, Dr. Palmer. I wanted to apologize before you left.”
Arabella’s eyes flicked over Georgina, silently evaluating her.
She moved with the grace of a dancer, tall and poised, though her features lacked perfect symmetry.
When Arabella remained silent, Georgina pressed on.
“Dr. Palmer, I know Kim confronted me because of you. But this all started because of me. I’m sorry. Let’s never speak of it again.”
She added softly, “I’m new to Zelmere and don’t have many friends here. I’d really like to be your friend.”
