**Her Spark Ignites Tonight**
**By J.S. Caldwell**
**Chapter 357**

In the midst of her slumber, Arabella was jolted awake by an unfamiliar sound emanating from the adjacent room. As she stirred, it dawned on her that the power had unexpectedly gone out, plunging her surroundings into an unsettling darkness.

Memories of the day flooded her mind—the sight of two middle-aged men rummaging for scrap at the entrance of Vance Manor and Julian’s stern warning just before she had drifted off to sleep. A shiver ran down her spine as she recalled his words. With caution, Arabella decided against using her phone’s light; instead, she extended her hands in front of her, navigating the inky blackness toward the door.

“Julian,” she whispered, her voice barely breaking the silence as she entered his room, her heart racing.

Suddenly, a hand clamped over her mouth, and she was forcefully shoved into the cramped double-doored cabinet tucked beneath the desk. Panic surged through her as she heard Julian’s urgent whisper, urging her to stay quiet. Curling herself into the small space, Arabella’s mind raced with fear, her initial thought being that intruders had breached the sanctuary of Vance Manor. She couldn’t risk putting Julian in danger.

Moments later, a blinding beam of light sliced through the darkness as the floor-to-ceiling window shattered with a deafening crash. A group of shadowy figures stormed into the room, their intentions clear. The assailants wasted no time; they lunged toward Julian, who remained eerily calm in his wheelchair, flanked only by his loyal subordinate, Ryan.

From her hiding place, Arabella dared to peek through a narrow crack in the cabinet, her breath hitching as she witnessed the chaos unfolding. The attackers, armed with daggers, advanced on Julian, and an overwhelming sense of dread washed over her.

In a moment of desperation, Arabella burst from her hiding spot, shoving Julian’s wheelchair away from the impending danger. The sudden movement caught Julian off guard, and he glided past Ryan to the far side of the room, his expression unyielding.

“Move!” Ryan shouted, urgency lacing his tone.

Just then, two menacing figures, blades glinting in the light, charged at Arabella. Without a second thought, she ducked beneath the desk, her heart pounding in her chest.

It was then that Jayceon arrived, a whirlwind of energy and determination.

“Quick, save Julian!” Arabella urged, shoving him toward the assailants with a fierce resolve.

Before Jayceon could voice his concern for her safety, she propelled him forward, her instincts kicking in as the chaos continued to swirl around them. In the fray, Jayceon moved with astonishing speed, reaching Julian’s side just as the room erupted into a melee.

Julian and Jayceon found themselves surrounded, the assailants attacking from all angles. Arabella, refusing to stand idly by, surged forward once more, her protective instincts igniting.

Jayceon watched in disbelief as Arabella flung herself onto Julian, shielding him with her own body. For a fleeting moment, he was stunned, emotions swirling within him. But he quickly suppressed them, instinctively positioning himself to shield Arabella in return.

This selfless act, however, left an opening for the assailants. Arabella heard a muffled groan escape Jayceon’s lips from behind her. She spun around, only to witness the horrifying sight of two daggers plunging into his body, their cruel glint reflecting the chaos around them.

“The wicked live long. Mr. Melendez will be fine,” she reassured him, her voice steady despite the chaos.

Jayceon’s expression froze, disbelief etched across his features. He stared at Arabella, the weight of her words crashing down upon him. Suddenly, the pain became too much, and he dropped to one knee, his body giving out beneath him.

Arabella had barely known Julian for a short time, yet in the face of danger, she had recklessly chosen to protect him over Jayceon, leaving her friend vulnerable. And now, the first person she cared about in this tumultuous world was also Julian, her thoughts of Jayceon momentarily forgotten.

He realized she couldn’t forgive him yet, but he had never anticipated that she would seem indifferent to whether he lived or died.

Ryan re-entered the room, urgency in his voice. “Julian, everything has been cleaned up.”

“Take Mr. Melendez to the hospital,” Julian instructed, his voice firm yet filled with concern.

Ryan rushed over to assist Jayceon, who was clearly struggling against the pain. “You can go ‘fishing’ all you want, but don’t drag Arabella into it. She’s not one of you!” Jayceon warned, his words laced with defiance.

The tension hung thick in the air as the reality of their situation settled around them, each of them grappling with their own fears and the bonds that tied them together in this moment of crisis.
