**Her Spark Ignites Tonight**
By J.S. Caldwell
**Chapter 98**
Jayceon turned his gaze towards the horizon, a weighty tightness coiling around his chest like a vice. The sunset painted the sky in hues of orange and purple, but all he could feel was the impending storm brewing in his heart.
“Next month, the Melendez Corporation will be signing a multi-billion dollar deal with the Hongyu Group,” Sir announced, his voice steady yet laced with authority. “Once that’s concluded, I will personally ensure that a lawyer is arranged to handle the divorce proceedings for these two kids.”
He cast a glance at his son, his expression unreadable yet expectant.
Conrad, ever the dutiful son, quickly pulled out a pen and paper, ready to jot down a receipt as if it were just another mundane transaction.
Oliver stepped forward, his demeanor professional as he reached for the bank cards that were to be exchanged.
But just as Oliver was about to hand the cards to Conrad, Arabella surged forward, snatching them back with a fierce determination that caught everyone off guard.
All eyes turned to Arabella, a mix of surprise and confusion swirling in the room.
“What, having second thoughts?” Sir inquired, his tone dripping with skepticism as he studied her.
Arabella met Sir’s gaze briefly before shifting her focus to Jayceon, her heart racing. In that moment, Jayceon’s deep-set eyes sparkled with a flicker of hope, and he strode toward her, grasping her arm with a firm yet gentle touch.
After three years of marriage, he had an instinctual belief that she couldn’t bear to sever their bond.
“Look, I’ll pay back the principal,” Arabella declared, her voice unwavering yet tinged with desperation, “but not a single cent of interest!”
Jayceon’s expression, which had softened in the warmth of their shared history, began to harden, a chill creeping into his features.
Conrad, sensing the tension, leaned forward, his tone almost condescending. “Do you even grasp how much profit billions can generate in Jay’s hands over three years? The interest alone runs into tens of millions! If we were to calculate the actual amount, the Palmer family wouldn’t be able to bear it!”
Arabella brushed aside Conrad’s words, her resolve unshaken. Standing before Jayceon, her eyes glistened with unshed tears, the weight of her brother’s tuition money pressing heavily on her conscience.
With her lower lip trembling, she confronted Jayceon, “With my looks and body, I could have slept with anyone for three years and made far more than just tens of millions in interest!”
Her face was pale, and her voice cracked with emotion as she continued, “I’ve been with Mr. Melendez for three years. Surely he doesn’t expect me to do this for free, does he?”
Though he had married her for reasons beyond love, he had never looked down on her; she was his partner, after all.
He had envisioned a conversation where both families could sit down, hash things out, and ultimately bring Arabella back home. But now, it had devolved into chaos.
It was the first time Tabitha had witnessed her son in such a frenzied state; disappointment and heartache flooded her eyes as she took in the scene.
Conrad, pointing a finger at Roderick’s chest, threatened, “If you even think about touching my son, I’ll make sure the entire Palmer family pays for it!”
Roderick’s grip on the knife handle trembled with barely contained rage, his entire arm shaking as he stood protectively in front of his wife and children. “These old bones of mine may not be much, but if anyone dares to bully my children, I’ll fight them to the death!”
Sir exchanged a knowing glance with Oliver, who swiftly opened the door to allow the bodyguards to flood in from outside.
“Let me go!” Jayceon shouted, struggling against their grip. Despite his skills as a fighter, he found himself outmatched by the sudden onslaught of bodyguards.
With Oliver and his father present, he was unable to unleash his full strength. As the bodyguards struggled to contain him, Oliver seized the opportunity to knock him out when he least expected it, ordering them to carry him away.
Conrad shot a furious glare at Arabella’s parents before storming out in a fit of rage, leaving the chaos behind.
