**Her Spark Ignites Tonight**
By J.S. Caldwell
**Chapter 240**
A wave of panic crashed over Arabella, threatening to engulf her completely. She fought against it, forcing herself to remain silent, grappling with the turmoil that churned within her. The bathroom felt like a prison, the walls closing in as she sank to the unforgiving cold floor beside the toilet. In that moment, she was as lost and vulnerable as a small child wandering through a crowded marketplace, desperately searching for a familiar face amidst a sea of strangers.
It hit her like a thunderclap, heavy and suffocating, that Jayceon had orchestrated this entire situation with meticulous precision. His ultimate aim was to ensnare her with a child—a living, breathing bond that would tie her to him for all eternity. The mere thought of bringing an innocent life into such a toxic world filled her with a profound dread. If this child were to come into existence, it would be nothing more than a pawn in Jayceon’s manipulative game, a mere tool for his selfish desires.
How could she ever provide this innocent soul with the nurturing and loving family it so desperately deserved? The stark reality loomed large: it would grow up in an environment devoid of warmth and affection, surrounded by toxicity and deceit. No, she could not allow this child to enter a world where it would be unwanted and unloved.
The chilling idea of anyone discovering that she was carrying Jayceon’s child sent icy tendrils of fear racing down her spine. She needed to act swiftly; every second counted if she hoped to rid herself of this burden.
Just then, a sharp knock echoed against the bathroom door, jolting her from her spiraling thoughts. Arabella inhaled deeply, steeling herself as she quickly composed her features before opening the door.
Zachary stood there, his handsome face etched with genuine concern as he took in her pale complexion. “Arabella, you look a bit under the weather. Has work been too demanding lately? If you need to take a few days off, just say the word. Your health comes first.”
Forcing a smile that felt more like a mask, Arabella replied, “Thank you for your concern, Zachary. I didn’t sleep well last night, but I’m fine, really.”
Zachary placed a neatly organized file on her desk, his demeanor shifting to one of professionalism. “There’s an expert panel discussion in New York at the end of the month. Our hospital has three spots available, and I thought of you. Would you be interested in attending?”
At the mere mention of New York, a flicker of hope ignited within Arabella, momentarily lifting her spirits. “Absolutely, Zachary! I’d love to go!”
She was only about four weeks along, and surely she could manage to hold off until the end of the month. This conference represented the perfect cover, a chance to slip away from Jayceon’s ever-watchful gaze. After the event, she could easily concoct an excuse to linger in New York for a day or two, allowing her the opportunity to discreetly end this pregnancy without raising any alarms.
Once Zachary left the office, Arabella began to pace, her mind racing with swirling thoughts and worries. Jayceon was always scheming, and she was acutely aware that he would be keeping a close watch on her. Last night’s episode of sudden illness must have aroused his suspicions. She needed to find a way to divert his attention before he could pin her down.
Grabbing the internal phone, she called for her assistant. A few moments later, Sophie knocked and entered the room, her expression eager and attentive. Leaning in, Arabella whispered a few urgent instructions into her ear, and Sophie nodded vigorously before hurrying off to put the plan into action.
An hour ticked by, and Sophie returned, her face alight with triumph as she handed over a blood test report along with a small bag of medicine. Arabella glanced at the report; her name was printed clearly at the top, and the results indicated alarmingly high levels of white blood cells and neutrophils.
After a brief visit to Vance Manor in the afternoon, Arabella returned home earlier than expected, only to find Jayceon already waiting for her, his presence looming in the dimly lit hallway.
