**Chapter 298**

“Let’s get a divorce,” Arabella declared, her voice unwavering, though beneath the surface lay a current of vulnerability that threatened to spill over. “Perhaps we can still remain friends after this.”

At her words, Jayceon felt as though the ground beneath him had shifted. A wave of panic surged through him, tightening his chest as if a vice had suddenly clamped down. Without even realizing it, his fingers curled around her arm, anchoring her to him, revealing his desperation and the fear of losing her that clawed at his insides.

His eyes shimmered with unshed tears, reflecting the turmoil within. “You want a divorce? Unless I’m dead,” he replied, each syllable heavy with the weight of his emotions, a mixture of disbelief and dread.

Arabella, acutely aware of the storm brewing within him, took a deep, steadying breath. She didn’t want to escalate the situation; she needed to find a way to calm the tempest. “We can talk this out. Just let go of me first,” she urged, her voice soft yet insistent, hoping to diffuse the tension that crackled in the air.

But Jayceon, ever stubborn, only tightened his grip, burying his face into the crook of her neck, seeking solace in her warmth. “Just let me hold you for a bit,” he murmured, his voice muffled, filled with an aching need for comfort amidst the chaos that surrounded them.

As Arabella searched for a way to gently extricate herself from his embrace, the door swung open abruptly, interrupting their fragile moment. In walked Steve, flanked by Jayceon’s parents and two medical staff members, their entrance a jarring intrusion that halted the emotional exchange.

Steve’s expression morphed into one of utter confusion, his brows knitting together in disbelief as he took in the scene before him.

Tabitha, equally taken aback, exchanged a glance with Conrad, who whispered, “Their marriage… maybe it’s not as bad as it looks!”

Sensing the need for discretion, Tabitha quickly pulled Conrad out of the room, leaving Jayceon and Arabella to navigate this unexpected intrusion alone.

With reluctance, Jayceon released Arabella, though his gaze remained locked onto her, as if she were the only steady point in a tumultuous sea.

“Get your big boss back into bed,” Arabella instructed Steve, her tone firm yet tinged with concern for Jayceon’s well-being.

Steve froze momentarily, processing her words, before hastily moving to comply, the urgency of the situation dawning on him.

Turning her attention back to the doctor, Arabella inquired, “Ms. Dawson, how’s the patient’s condition?”

Ms. Dawson, clipboard in hand, replied, “He has several contusions on his legs. We’re still waiting on two of the scans, and Mr. Melendez has requested to be hospitalized for observation.”

Arabella nodded, her voice steady despite the chaos. “He’s in great shape. It’s a minor injury at worst.”

Ms. Dawson cast a glance at Jayceon, who shot a piercing glare at Steve, his frustration palpable, simmering just beneath the surface.

Steve, unsure if he was overstepping, hesitated before speaking. “Ma’am, the situation was dangerous. If Mr. Melendez hadn’t been so quick on his feet, he could have been seriously injured. He probably has internal injuries,” he asserted, trying to convey the gravity of the situation, his tone serious.
