Chapter 49
Arabella’s parents loved her deeply and were determined not to let him take her away so easily.
Once they returned home, Kayla immediately set about tidying Arabella’s room, carefully arranging everything to make her daughter feel comfortable. Meanwhile, Roderick stepped out to pick up groceries for dinner.
Arabella tried her best to steady her emotions and pitched in with the cleaning. The house felt heavy with unspoken tension, but she forced herself to focus on the small tasks at hand.
As evening settled in, Roderick busied himself cooking in the kitchen, the aroma of spices filling the air. Arabella and Kayla worked side by side outside the kitchen, chopping vegetables and preparing ingredients, their movements quiet but purposeful.
After a long pause, Arabella finally found the courage to speak. “Dad, Mom… I’ve decided to separate from Jayceon.”
Roderick, still stirring the pot, lowered his head, the weight of her words sinking in deeply.
Kayla, who had been bracing for this moment, asked gently, “Bella, please be honest with me. Is Jayceon having an affair?”
Arabella clenched her jaw, fighting back tears. “His first love came back into his life. They have a son together. He’s living another life with another family.”
Suddenly, a loud clang echoed from the kitchen as Roderick slammed down the pot and switched off the stove with a harsh click.
He stepped out, his face etched with pain. “No matter how poor we are, we can’t let you endure this kind of humiliation.”
Kayla immediately took a firm stance. “Bella, you have to listen to us. Jayceon doesn’t deserve you anymore. You must insist on a divorce.”
Arabella looked at her parents, struggling to find the right words. “He’s already agreed to the divorce… but our family has to repay him 150 million dollars.”
Roderick’s hand trembled uncontrollably as he gripped the wooden spoon.
Kayla’s heart ached for her daughter. She reached out, holding Arabella’s hand tightly. “You should have told us sooner, sweetheart.”
Tears streamed down Arabella’s face as she tried to comfort her parents. “Dad, Mom, please don’t worry. I will find a way to get this divorce.”
Roderick glanced at Kayla, his usually steady demeanor faltering as a tear escaped his eye.
Kayla gently released Arabella’s hand and quietly rose, heading toward the bedroom. Moments later, she returned carrying a black briefcase-style security box.
She opened it carefully, revealing a stunning set of jewelry inside.
Arabella stared at the exquisite jade and diamond pieces. The set was clearly valuable, and yet, somehow familiar to her.
“This is the Kemp family heirloom,” Kayla explained softly. “It’s been passed down through four generations to me. When we went bankrupt, your father and I sold everything we had to pay off debts, but I couldn’t bear to part with this set. It might help you and your brother in the future.”
Kayla continued, “When Jayceon cleared our family’s debts, your father and I offered him this set, but he refused. Now that he’s demanding money, we have no choice but to repay him. This jewelry is worth over 150 million dollars. Sell it, return the money to Jayceon, and I fully support your divorce.”
