My Best Friend’s Father Wants me novel Chapter 33

Enora

Hell no! No…freaking…way!

I sized her up with pre-cooked hate. She was tall and slender, curvy in all the right places. My breasts and butt looked like oranges compared to hers. Her face was beautifully round and her eyes…they were the deepest shade of green I had ever seen. The sun gently bathed her face and they seemed to glimmer like emeralds. Her hair was brown, wavy, and silky, reaching the small of her back, accentuating her perfect hips.

My face was envy-green and I shrunk back. Why did I feel so ugly all of a sudden? I always thought I was a good seven or eight of ten but compared to her…a one or two.

“Yes. Ms. Catherine did mention you. I was actually just talking to my assistant about the gala as well.”

Those green eyes of hers turned to me and I felt my body stiffen. She smiled and her pearly white teeth flashed at me. I would probably need to shield my eyes. I was certain that they weren’t veneers.

I turned to Mr. Wright and it was then I realized that all eyes were on me. They were both waiting for my answer. Fuck!

“Miss Lopez?”

“Yes, I…I will be available to attend the gala with Mr. Wright.”

I rose to my full height and faced her. I saw her frown slightly, her eyes taking me in and rolling just a bit that one could almost miss it.

“Well, in that case, I shall be going. I’ll tell Ms. Catherine that arrangements have already been made.”

Her cheery voice wavered and she walked out of the room. I didn’t even realize that I was heaving until she closed the door behind her.

“You are jealous.”

I jerked in fright and turned, nearly toppling over. His arms grabbed me around my waist and he pulled me close to him. I gasped. My body was crushed against his and I felt his warm minty breath on my face.

“You told him not to touch you. This is clearly a violation,” my inner voice said angrily.

My eyes caught a glance at my legs. If he let go of me, I was going to end up like Mr. John.

“I am not jealous,” I huffed, passive-aggressively.

“You are. I saw the way you were looking at her,” he said with a slight chuckle.

“And I saw the way she was looking at you. For some reason, I prefer the receptionist at the hotel.”

He chuckled a little louder; I felt my anger melt away and I relaxed in his arms. It was always refreshing to hear him laugh. It made me feel…warm.

“You aren't supposed to be touching me,” i said meekly, trying not to flush.

“You will fall over if I let go of you, Enora.”

I scowled and crossed my arms.

“And that would still be your fault. I was perfectly fine till you whispered in my ear.”

He took in my face and smiled. He looked younger but the eyebags were still visible.

“Point made.”

He placed me back on my feet and I took some steps away from him. His face saddened and my gut churned with guilt. Why was I doing this to this man? I wanted him, too. I could still feel his arms around me, my face still felt warm from his breath.

We stood there in awkward silence until he finally broke it.

“Neither of us had breakfast this morning. I believe it is time for your break and I would like you to have lunch with me.”

My heart thumped. I wanted to say no but I nearly choked and he had to hand me his bottle of water.

Why did the rim taste like him? I was getting heady.
