My Deceased Wife Wants a Divorce (Hannah) novel Chapter 298

At the sound of Hannah’s voice, Lionel shot to his feet and strode toward the door.

Grandma watched her grandson’s abrupt reaction, a knowing smile spreading across her face. “Look at him, Cindy,” she said to her longtime companion. “So excited to see his wife.”

Cindy smiled warmly. “It shows that your advice is working, ma’am. The young master and missus are growing closer.”

Grandma nodded, pleased, her gaze following them outside.

Hannah saw Lionel approaching and immediately looked away, her irritation palpable. He was a man who couldn't keep his word.

He grabbed her by the wrist, stopping her from going any further.

“Let go of me!”

“Hannah, I know you’re still angry,” he said in a low voice, “but Grandma is sick. Whatever you have to say to me, don’t say it in front of her. We can’t upset her.”

She struggled against his grip, but he was too strong. “Lionel, let go!” she hissed, glaring at him. “I’m not an idiot! Let go!”

He hesitated for a moment, his brow furrowed, but his grip remained firm.

“What more do you want?” she snapped, her anger rising. “Don’t think for a second that I won’t make a scene just because we’re at your grandmother’s house!”

“What were you two talking about out there? It’s windy today, and you’re not wearing enough. You’ll catch a cold,” Grandma fretted, pulling Hannah’s coat tighter around her and taking her hand. “Did that brat call you and drag you over here? I told him it was just a little cold. I hope he didn’t pull you away from work.”

Hannah shook her head, a lump forming in her throat as she looked at Grandma’s frail, wrinkled hand holding hers. “You were sick and you didn’t tell me,” she said, her voice soft. “If I hadn’t needed to talk to Lionel, I would have never known. And you say I’m not dressed warmly enough—look at you.”

Lionel, who had followed her inside, quickly interjected, “It was nothing important. We were just deciding what to have for dinner tonight. I’ve been doing the cooking lately.” He was terrified Grandma would ask what they were really discussing, and that Hannah would blurt out the truth.

Hannah shot him a glare. His unnecessary explanation only made them look more suspicious. Fortunately, Grandma didn't seem to notice.

“And you have the nerve to say that with pride?” she huffed at Lionel. “That’s what you’re supposed to do. I’m embarrassed for you.”
