If Sandra had truly wanted to destroy her, she could have used the video of the attempted rape. Even though they failed, broadcasting that would have made every guest at the party assume the worst.
Any explanation she offered would have been met with polite nods to her face and vicious gossip behind her back.
“What!” Hearing this, Grandma Temple roared with fury, rising to her feet and pointing a trembling finger at Jason.
“You animal! How could you… How could you!”
Hannah quickly went to her grandmother’s side and helped her sit back down.
“Grandma, please don’t be upset. They didn’t succeed. I had something in my hand and nearly killed them. They were so scared they never bothered me again.”
Grandma Temple clutched Hannah’s hand, tears streaming down her face. “Hannah, my dear, you’ve suffered so much. This is all our fault. The Temple family failed you, and that’s why you had to endure all this pain.”
Her grandmother’s sobs sent a sharp pang through Hannah’s heart. She took a deep breath and continued to soothe her.
Worried that the rest of the conversation would agitate her further, Hannah had a maid escort Grandma back to her room to rest.
“Mr. Cooper,” Hannah said, her voice turning cold. “I’ll ask you one question. Who told the staff to play that video on the screen last night?”
“It was Sandra!” Jason exclaimed without a moment’s hesitation. “She’s the one who told me you were part of the Temple family and were having a welcome party. She said she wanted to ruin it and asked me to find the old videos to expose you.”
He rushed to explain, “She called me directly, so I don’t have a recording, but I swear it’s the truth. When I asked what videos she wanted, she said to send whatever I had, so I sent her everything.”
Hannah paused, considering his words for a moment. “Including the video of the attempted rape?” Jason didn’t speak, merely giving a slight, terrified nod.
Just then, a servant hurried into the room. “Mr. Temple, Ms. Temple, there’s a young woman at the door who says she’s from the Woods family. She’s asking to see Ms. Temple.”
“Did you manage to catch Mr. Cooper?”
“He got away. He wasn't at the airport you mentioned. Sandra, you weren’t playing games with us, were you?” Hannah asked, raising an eyebrow.
“He wasn’t there? That’s impossible! He told me he was flying out of the country,” Sandra said, her brow furrowed in feigned surprise.
“Why would he need to flee the country? Did he do something wrong?”
“He was going to play a vid…” Sandra blurted out before clamping her mouth shut.
That was close! She’d almost let it slip that the wrong video had been played, not the rape one. “Play a video?” Hannah pressed. “Weren’t you the one who played it?”,
