Owen handed him his phone.
Lionel’s face was grim as he took it. As he read the article and watched the video, his expression turned as black as thunder.
“Mr. Rosenberg, the internet is blowing up with stories that you and Ms. Woods were dating. Now that the Woods family has gone bankrupt, they’re saying you turned your back on her and sent people to reclaim all the gifts you ever gave her. And, and…”
Owen stammered, afraid to continue.
“Spit it out!”
“And Mrs. Woods told the reporters that Ms. Woods was the one who funded your education and that she was the one who provided the connections and startup capital for your company.”
“Now everyone is calling you an ungrateful scumbag and a heartless jerk. The company’s stock plummeted within half an hour of the news breaking. The PR department sent me to ask how you want to handle the rebuttal.”
Since this was about Lionel's personal life, the PR department didn't dare issue a statement without his approval, forced to watch as the story shot to the top of the trending lists and the stock prices nose-dived.
Lionel looked at the men in the video. He hadn't sent them. This had to be Hannah’s doing.
But he couldn't get a hold of her.
Owen quickly offered his own new phone. “This is a new, unregistered phone number. Your wife doesn’t know this one. You can use it to call her!”
Lionel gave him a surprised look, impressed by his newfound resourcefulness.
He took the phone and dialed.
On the other end, Hannah saw the unfamiliar number and raised an eyebrow, signaling to Samuel.
Samuel could tell Lionel was absolutely livid on the other end of the line, yet his sister was speaking to him with such calm indifference.
That was his sister, alright. Absolutely ruthless.
“Hannah… didn’t you consider the consequences of doing this? Did you have to push her like this?”
“Lionel, if Quennel hadn't sent me that recording, I would have never known about your generosity. You gave Sandra so much, yet she still had the gall to demand another fifty million from you. You've never been that generous with me.”
“I never said I’d give it to her!”
“But you didn't refuse her on the spot either!” Hannah’s voice rose sharply. “It’s done now, so you can deal with it. Whether you announce our marriage or keep it hidden, I don't care. I'm just reclaiming our marital assets so we can split them evenly later!”
