She tilted her head back to look at Lionel, her voice choked with sobs.
“If I go back now, Hannah will destroy me. I’m scared.”
But this time, her pleas had absolutely no effect on Lionel.
His face hardened as he pried her hand away.
“If you were so scared, why did you do it in the first place?”
Sandra bit her lip, realizing that nothing she said now would get through to him.
“Fine, I understand,” she said, taking a deep breath as if she had made a momentous decision. She stood up. “I’ll go pack my things and come back with you. Just wait for me here.”
“It’s good that you’ve come to your senses.”
Sandra kept looking back at Lionel as she walked toward the stairs. The moment she was out of his sight, her expression changed completely. She quickly sent a text to Owen, then bolted through a separate emergency exit.
She wasn’t an idiot.
If she went back now, Hannah would never forgive her, and she would likely end up in prison.
She just never imagined that Lionel would actually come all the way to Kiron to find her for Hannah’s sake.
It was clear he had completely changed. The next time she saw him, she wouldn’t waste time talking—she’d just run.
Downstairs, Lionel waited for a long time, but Sandra never reappeared. A sense of unease crept over him.
He immediately got up and headed upstairs.
