Daniel pulled the luggage behind me as I walked to the car. The door was already open, so I stepped inside while Daniel walked around the car, opened the trunk, and placed the suitcase inside. He sat behind the steering wheel, and once the engine roared to life, the car drove onto the highway.

Did you recheck the itinerary?I asked Daniel as I scrolled through the phone.

Yes. Mia and I made sure everything was in order. He replied swiftly, and I nodded. Looking at the itinerary, everything truly was in order.

After the press conference we held three days ago, Lydia suggested we go on a family vacation. Everything was back to the way it was; she had filed an action against Mom, and we were having a good time.

It felt as though a weight had been lifted from my chest. This vacation with the twins was a reminder that I had a normal family now. Gloria and Zoe will join us, but not on the first day.

The car came to a stop in front of a big black gate, which slid open after a few seconds, and our car drove in.

Lydia and the twins were already outside, and three suitcases were being arranged into the car. Once I got out. of my car, Liam and Melanie ran towards me, hugging me.

Lydia smiled and walked over. Daddy! They chorused. The words rolled off their lips easily, and it sounded like music to my ear. I picked them up, holding them in both arms; they were getting bigger and bigger by the day.

And how are my darlings doing?I asked.

Good!

Super happy.

They answered at the same time. I walked to the car. As per the arrangement, Lydia and I will drive in her car with the twins, while Mia and Daniel will drive my car so Mia can bring Lydia’s car back from the airport.

The resort we’d be staying at was in another city, and it was owned by Lydia. It was commissioned barely three weeks ago.

You came right in time,” Lydia said.

I didn’t want us to be late.” I lowered the kids to the ground, and they ran to the car.

You look beautiful,” I said, as I pulled her into a hug. She wore an Aline dress with a slit at the side.

She twisted her lips to the side, You tell me that all the time, so I’ve decided, she brought out a palm, I’ll get one flower each time you call me beautiful, she said with a laugh rustling from her throat.

Then you’ll have a garden in no time,” I said in a serious tone.

You always have the right words to say,we entwined our hands as we walked to the car.

We settled in the car. I’m behind the steering wheel, Lydia in the front passenger seat, and the twins in the back.

Dad, Mom said there’s a surprise and she doesn’t want to reveal it.Melanie suddenly said, poking her head.

between our seats.

Seat property and your seat belt, oh my goodness, Melanie,Lydia exclaimed. Fortunately, we were at the red light, so the car came to a stop, and Lydia turned to Melanie and fixed her seatbelt.

Mom can’t tell us because it’s a surprise,Liam said.

I can’t wait,” Melanie whined, and Lydia sat back down. Come on, Dad, tell me what the surprise is?

No, don’t tell us, I don’t want spoilers, it won’t be fun anymore if he tells us,Liam stated, and they went into another episode of banter.

There were times like this when their contradiction led to longer episodes, each wanted their point to be heard over the other. I had learnt the wrong way to stay off such banter.

Once the car stopped in front of the vehicle, we alighted. Mia and Daniel came down too and helped us bring down the suitcases. The airport was busy, and Lydia grabbed hold of the twins for fear that they might go missing if she let them go.

All through the flight, Liam and Melanie slept. It was a private airline reserved for just us, so we had the space

to ourselves.

You didn’t tell me we’d be using your airline,” Lydia said. She was seated beside me, leaning her body onto mine. She raised her head and held my gaze briefly. Was that why you said Mia shouldn’t worry about it?

Her warmth engulfed me, and my hands found their way to her waist. I smiled, knowing that she was pleased with my surprise, which made my heart warm. It’s a surprise, you don’t tell, or it will be no fun,I said, mimicking Liam’s voice.

You like it?I asked, and she nodded, resting her head back on my chest. Like? She asked in disbelief. I loved this. I love the fact that we’re going on a vacation. You made time despite a busy schedule.” She said, her voice was low, choked with emotion.

The thought that this was something she did by herself in the past made my heart sink. If only I were present from the start, then this would have been normal. Now it feels like we are a normal family. She said.

I smoothed her hair. This is how our day would be from now on. We’d always make time to go on vacations and do whatever we want. No matter how busy we are, I’m sure we can cut back on our work just like we’re doing, I’ll gladly do that for you and the twins.I said, and she nodded.

Taking time off for vacation was not an easy feat, especially noweverything was settled, and we were back to working the way we used to.

When we got out of the airport, two men were waiting for us. A driver and an assistant.

Chapter 163

We were led to an SUV pulled over in front of the airport. Liam and Melanie pressed their hand against the windshield throughout the drive, marvelled at the sight.

The car drove through a bridge, and soon we got to the hotel where we’d be staying for the next three days. The resort was surrounded by water.

Holy fucks, Lydia, this is splendid.I was completely blown away by the hotel. Sure, I had seen it in pictures, on social media, it was everywhere. The newest resort was opened by Lydia. What I never expected was for the hotel to be this magnificent.

A 40story building painted light brown.

There was a water fountain at the side. Other cars pulled up, and people stepped out. Although it was more than a month since it was opened, it had climbed up to sixth place.

At the entrance, three men wearing security uniforms stood with a grim look on their faces.

Once we began walking towards the building, I was glad I wasn’t the only one who was blown away, as Liam and Melanie had the same reaction.

Mom, is this where we’d be staying?

Liam asked, and before Lydia could answer, Melanie tugged at Lydia’s hand, pulling her forward, It’s so beautiful, let’s go in.We left our luggage in the car, knowing it would be brought for us.

Once we got to the lobby, three men and two women dressed in expensive tailor suits stood in a straight line, Lydia paused in front of them, and they bowed slightly as a sign of respect.

The man standing in the middle, whom I presumed was the manager, stepped forward, Welcome, Miss Brooks. I’m Mark, the managing director. We didn’t know in time that you were coming. I’d have picked you personally.” His voice shook slightly as he spoke.

Lydia shifted her weight from one foot to the other, clearly uncomfortable with the exchange.

We have prepared a small gat-Lydia interrupted.

No need,” she said. People bristled around, and we were already gaining unwanted attention.
