My ex-husband’s nightmare (Lydia and Mason) novel Chapter 48

Chapter 48

Lydia

Hey, Marcus.I tried to sound as excited as I could.

Miss Brooks. How are you? It’s been a while since we spoke, I’m sorry, I’ve been covered with so much work.

Oh, that’s fine,I said. You’re still in New York?I asked, pretending I had no idea. As if Mia didn’t just tell me he would be going to the party.

Yes, I still have some things to settle.” I heard him say.

My lips formed an oh.

Congratulations on securing that deal. His voice is hoarse and has a sharp edge. I liked the way he sounded.

Thank you.

We’ll see at the party later. He said, about to hang up, but I stopped him..

Marcus,I called.

There’s something I want to talk to you about.I said, It’s about what you said the last time.

You don’t have to give me a reply now.

I want to.I had to. I don’t want things to get awkward between us later today when we meet at the party. My voice was low. I don’t know how he would take in the information.

Maybe y

you need more time to think about it.He said, and before I could say another word, he hung up.

I bit my lower lips, stopping myself from pulling my hair.

He didn’t know how this worked. He didn’t like me, and don’t feel anything for him either.

Aside from the fact that it would be unfair to use him for my revenge, although he was consistently placing himself before me.

The second reason I didn’t want to date him was because of Mason.

It is Mason I wanted.

I realized I had been doing this wrongly.

I turned around, leaning on the table for support.

Maybe pushing Mason away wouldn’t help me get him.

I wanted him to come after me, so always pushing him away was more like dumping him with Julia.

I shook my head, hitting my phone against my teeth as I went deeper in thought.

A smile found its way to my lips as a new thought hit me. It was time to spice things up and hurry the pace.

Chapter 48

Since Marcus wants to be used so badly, I won’t push him away.

Iwon’t date him, but I’ll fulfill his request for being used.

It was a winwin for me.

I get to keep him around while taking revenge on Mason.

Marcus would be a good tool for making Mason jealous. As I walked out of my office, my hands danced on my keyboard.

I sent a message to Mia.

My lips parted in awe as I stared at my reflection. I had just stepped out of the dressing room in the boutique that Mis had taken me

  1. to.

It wasn’t just a regular boutique, as there were hair stylists and a makeup artist.

The dressing room was nice, made for situations like this.

Mia appeared behind me.

You lookshe shook her head, I can’t find the right words to describe you.

I am a woman, and just like other women, I bask in compliments and smile so hard that my cheeks begin to hurt.

Do you think anyone would be more beautiful than I am?I asked.

Aside from being the most successful in the party today, I also want to look the prettiest.

You can’t blame me.

It’s in my human nature.

Can anyone outshine the sun?Mia asked with a serious expression, “Of course not.She replied and laughed at what she thought was a joke.

I began laughing with her, not because what she said was funny, but because of the way she laughed.

I smoothed the front of my dress with my hands, taking my reflection one last time.

My eyes trace the dress

A white dress which hugs my body, perfectly accentuating my shape.

It had a deep neck, which exposed my cleavages. My hair was styled to the side.

It curls, bouncing.

The makeup was also on point.

Marcus is outside,” Mia informs me.

He wanted to go to the party together; I had no issue with that. He would be my date for the night.

I walked out of the room, taking slow steps towards the exit door.

Chapter 48

Just as Mia had said, Marcus’s car was outside.

He stepped out of his car when he caught sight of me, a bouquet of white roses in his hand.

He walked towards me. We met in the middle. His eyes took me in. A satisfied smile tugged the side of his lips.

You look breathtaking, Ms Brooks,”

He handed me the bouquet, and I took a big whiff of it.

And so do you,I said.

Marcus wore a black Italian suit.
