My ex-husband’s nightmare (Lydia and Mason) novel Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Mason

What an unpleasant surprise. Why are you here, Mr. Woods? Her voice was cheerful, but I could entice the little disappointment as if she were upset that I just interrupted her moment with Marcus.

Marcus leaned towards her, wiped her hair away from her face. I fist my palm as I watched him. He then planted a kiss on the side.

of her face.

Well, I want to speak to you,I said and then added, urgently.I fixed my eyes on Marcus. He wasn’t staring at me. His hand was still on her hair, and I wanted to pull it off. Rip it off the shoulder and beat him with it. But I held myself back.

What do you want to talk about? She asked, freeing herself from Marcus’s hold.

1 blinked, trying to steady my breath as I returned my eyes to Lydia. I want to speak in private,I told her

Marcus is no stranger. She said, and from her tone, I knew what she actually meant was, I don’t think there’s anything we have to talk about in private, Mason.

My heart twisted when I saw the triumphant look on Marcus’s face as he stared at me. I grind my teeth.

He is to me. I don’t know or trust hi

him,my voice was full of spite as I spoke. I couldn’t help it. I hate how close he is to Lydia.

I’ll leave,Marcus said, and then he did something, leaned towards Lydia, and whispered in her ear, She laughed at his words, and he kissed her cheeks before leaving, promising to call later.

After the door closed behind him, Lydia’s full attention was placed on me.

What did you want to say?

What was he doing here?I asked, And why were you so close to him?

She crossed one leg over the other and placed both palms on it. I don’t think I owe you an explanation about my personal life or my relationship with others, she said matteroffactly.

I passed one hand over my hair.

Lydia.I began.

Mason! She called back, her voice sharper. I sighed. She clearly has changed and isn’t the same woman anymore.

I placed the bag on the table. I brought your bag,I said

Okay. She didn’t say thanks. I don’t need her thanks. I don’t know why I feel angry, or maybe I have the right to be. After what happened last night, I thought there might be something between us now,

How well do you know him? Are you dating him? Why was he all over you? What if he’s not a good man?

Slow down, Mr. Woods, that’s too many questions,I said.

*You can answer one after the other? My eyes are moving across the office, looking for the closest seat to her and listening to her explain. But my expectations were killed the next moment when she repeated.

1/4

I owe you no damn explanation Mason, I couldn’t understand her.

You barely know this man. Why allow him to be all over you? What if he hurt you?I don’t know why I’m saying this, have put her through much worse, but I’d say anything to remove him from her life.

She

goes silent and just holds my gaze. She is seated and I’m standing, but the intensity of her gaze didn’t drop.

Pot calling kettle black. I don’t care what he does, cause someone has done worse. I know how to pick myself up, and I don’t need anyone worrying about me. Especially not you.She said.

I inhaled a scent of breath, Besides, we have no obligation to each other. You don’t see me asking rude questions about you and Julia,” so she cared about us, I’d be glad if she asked questions.

I don’t ask because I don’t care, and I hope with all my heart that you wouldn’t either. There, she said it.

I closed my eyes. Her words were sharp, but she had a point; she was right.

When I opened them, I felt a sting,

What about last night, we, youshe brushed me off quickly.

Last night was a mistake, pretend it didn’t happen,” She said. Her words hurt. It shouldn’t, but it did,

I can’t just pretend.I protested.

Then what? Wear it proudly on your head? She laughed. We both know what will happen if your fiancé finds out what happened.” I wanted to tell her that I’m not engaged to Julia, not yet, but I don’t think it would matter.

Last night will not be repeated, so move on.”

But I can’t. She stands and walks to sit behind her table. I know that this is the clue that the conversation is over, but I can’t accept it. I try one more time.

But she raised her hand to stop me before I could speak.

No more, Mason. Please see yourself out.She is stern. This made me love her again. I don’t like the fact that her feelings are constantly flipping, but I don’t care.

There’s something about this new Lydia that I wanted to explore. That is why seeing her with Marcus is driving me insane..

I worked out of the office, feeling worse than when I entered.

I drove off.

When I got to my office, I hung my suit in the hanger beside my table and dropped into my chair.

My phone rang. It was Julia.

Bad timing. I don’t answer. She called again, and on the fifth ring, I could no longer ignore the call, so I answered.

What do you want?I snapped. No response. I quickly realized that my tone was wrong, so I apologized.

I’m sorry, Julia, I’m just really having a long day.I said. It wasn’t really a lie.

It’s fine. I shouldn’t have called.

No wait,I said before she could end the call.

Speak, I can make time to listen,” I said, staring at the screen in front of me.

I missed you, we’ve not had time for ourselves since you’ve been busy. Can we have dinner later tonight? She asked.

Alright.

After the call, a sea of thought hit me,

She was right, we’ve not been able to enjoy ourselves or the things we love so much. After yesterday, I was beginning to think of ending things with Julia.

I can’t deny that I’m attracted to Lydia. No, that’s the wrong choice of words.

I’m in love with her. I never stopped loving her, and seeing her with Marcus made me realise something I can’t allow her to be with another man, I want her back, and I will get her.
